Why Funco?

Front suspension geometry prioritizes grip, turn in, and steering feel over travel and bumpsteer like everyone else does.

And the chit mentioned above.

Is the 35-45K for a gen 3 pre covid  or highly inflated covid pricing? What is an outstanding deal ‘that won’t last long’ on a gen 3 with the subaru engine?
Pre covid subi gen 4 car could be purchased in that 35-45k range.  Hard to tell what direction things will go.

Regardless, the seat of the pants feel and thrill won't much different between a G3/G4 Funco with the same powerplant.

Make sure if nothing else, it has at least a Mendeola 2D trans.  Stay away from the earlier vw boxes. Not much resale value IMO

@Grease Monkey  anyway we can maybe see some of the latest pics (a sneak peak)  of that little gem you been working on (NOT THE HOUSE) I mean the rocket ship!

:poule:

Front suspension geometry
This was my opinion as well.  I always thought of them as the OG TRX of sand cars, might not of been the biggest or fastest but always the best handling of the quads

Thanks for the info and the tip.

They’re really easy to get in and out of when you’re holding a couple of bags of groceries.
Good to know! I could drive one to the grocery store here.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the information and responses.

the main thing i noticed after driving greasemonkeys g52 he had was that the funcos steering self centered back after a turn just like your everyday car on the street does.

Theres some great Funco highlights in this thread. Ive owned 7 different sandcars and the only thing I would add to this thread is suspension Travel and Driver positioning

Funco designed their cars completely around the driver making them the center point of the car in weight distribution. The balance point of my funco is directly under the rear seats (to pick all 4 tires up at the same time off one lifting point) That is, until I sit in the car, then it moves up to me. Funco's are extremely well balanced which helps them slide evenly.

Travel is another huge key point. As mentioned before, the airbag creates a unique "spring rate" that is hard to mimic and creates for an amazing ride, but the true duning factor lies in the fact that their not over stroked. Funco, in comparison, has a shorter suspension travel rate, and this is what really factors in to why they slide and turn the way they do. The long travel sandcars I have had could slide, but they couldnt slide and corner as tight and quick with out (suspension) body roll and would begin to 3-wheel through the turns. Funco's stay planted, all 4 wheels down. They can take the whoops if valved and set up correctly, but their not whoop runners. Their Dune sliders. "Nothing slides like a Funco".

Light-weight, Low center of gravity, Evenly weight-distributed, Flat surface rear tires, and a great power-to-weight ratio... can make almost anyone look good, lol.

Great point!  While I think I'm a good driver, I've got friends that have 35+ years in the dunes.  They've got some really nice cars and I have no problem keeping up and when leading I can make it really difficult for them to keep up.  I'm sure they are better drivers / or willing to take more chances than I.  The difference is my Funco....it drives itself and makes me look good.
