When things go boom... Dead motor

I still think so.
I always went back to my builders, whether it be the engine, trans or overall car etc. and got great support.
Just my.02.
Believe me I thought about it. Jason was at Redline on Thursday and talked to Mike and I. I made the decision to let redline do their best since the car was there. Making the regatta and the last family trip of the season with my family was more important, plus any motor has to broken in on the dyno.

Priorities are always important.
Hope you make the regatta.
Good luck.

The lifters looked pretty bad, was with Mike at redline, everything else looked good,  all it takes is one hard hit of the rev limit loosing contact, if the wheel loosing contact with the camshaft, for a second then the lifters can break,  one lifter had a broken cup, another had a mushroom wheel from loosing contact of the cam and one lifter was bent from loosing contact,

Me and Mike thought we could just pull a lifter and it would be on its way, but the lifters where to far gone,  Comp R Lifters and a BTR stage 4 Boost cam, With a Pac 1209X springs,

Cam was pretty dented, not sure how much over rev but just takes a second, Seat pressure is at 180lbs and over the nose is 485lbs, can bump it up to 510lbs max, but can drop a valve over time with the extra pressure,

Best would be to put a smaller cam, with .100 less lift (550) lift, but going to loose some HP,   Jessie was saying it might happened when the car got stuck,

We tried to also just to get the cam out but the lifter was pretty bent so, figured it would be best to pull it down and hone the lifter bore, so unfortunately the full motor had to come apart,

Those guys in the Middle East stand on the rev limiter all the way up the hill. Is their RPM limit scaled way back?

The motor didnt like something, IDK. I do know Jesse was 2 cars ahead of me when I got stuck. So I do not think that he can really say.

but I am not a rev limiter guy and when tuners tune don't they tune to add a rev limiter to save the motor?

I am not trying to point fingers, I just dont want it to happen again and dont it to be the end of my season because of that.

Looking forward, I would get with the tuner and discuss your concerns.

My tuner said he could set my rev limiter close to 6800.  I said nope, set to 6000.  I have never hit it, haven't had a reason to.

I have never seen a LS motor with a ECU not have a safe rev limit. I bet yours is 6500 but maybe 7000. I had a carburetor small block not have a rev limiter once. Needless to say the motor lasted 1 pass and it got rebuilt and a rev limiter system added. I highly doubt you spun that blower motor to 9,000 like I did the small block. Expensive lesson to learn.

Damn man that is terrible news to hear, hopefully Redline will have the car back up and running for your next trip!

what’s the status or final verdict? Did you make the regatta? How’d she run?

Final verdict: Motor had bad lifters. Seems to be an issue with quite a few builders that I spoke to. Huge shout out to Mike @ Redline His team tore the motor out of the car, disassembly of the motor & machined for the bad lifters etc. They rebuilt the entire motor, it was not cheap :showmoney: but it ran great. Made 813 HP to the wheels. Gained 60 hp somehow so that lead me and Mike to believe the motor was not at full potential from the start. Jason did reach out to me to see how he could help. Which I do appreciate.

We definitely made the regatta and the events of it. My wife actually took the car out for the ladies ride and was shocked as to how well the car drove and handled (I never let her drive it before) It was a pretty good trip considering the weather was not the best. Will do it again next year.

As always Appreciate @L.R.S. for being there when I call. His service is top notch as always. And he has raised his kids to be great people. The glamis family is awesome and I am sad to think the season is almost over.
