“”Wheel Pro’s”” Did It Again…..

So many times, the second generation has watched the "family business" even though successful and decide they don't want this life for themselves, and that's ok. When the offer to sell comes this then is the owner's alternate retirement plan. Many times, owners do wish to see family continue the business and must accept this reality.
I  1,000,000% agree. I have seen this happen with three of my close friends that have inherited 5 to $20 million businesses. They have put in 10 to 20 years of their own time into the business and then say “”what the hell am I doing this for””. So I do not blame them for selling it off and taking it easy for the rest of their life. I’m just a little envious wishing it was me…..lol.

Didn't know their name...they like Rent-A-Wheel?

:crusty:
RimTyme? Lol

Other times, the kids are highly educated “businessmen” and run a niche company into the ground with mainstream business practices.

*********GD.com will not let me say Dik Cepek—— they replace it with “Pee-Pee” WTF! Really???***********   The one that comes to my mind is pee pee Cepek Off Road Stores. pee pee himself was a very nice gentleman. Then his spoiled rotten son Tom Cepek took over when dad passed away and ran it into the ground. I did get into it with Tom Cepek two different times and he was just a arrogant jerk. Anybody who was a regular customer of pee pee Cepek off road in the 80s could clearly see Tom Cepek was ruining the business. The business did not last long with pee pee’s son Tom in charge with pee pee passed away.

Yep. A popular wheel company went a similar direction.

I've read this 5 times and it's still funny. Reading it out loud is even funnier.Screenshot_20220704-230849__01.jpg

This is spot on. I deal with a lot of mergers and acquisitions. Many of them are exactly this where the founder needs to exit because they have nobody interested or capable of taking over the business.

2nd generation business are likely to fail, 3rd generation business are rare.

My son kicks around taking over my business.

We’ll see.

I hope that works out for you and your son. IMO that would be the best of both worlds, for both of you. Good luck.

It’s shocking how many companies & brands you use were sold off and are owned by bigger companies or investment capital companies.

Method wheel, GMZ, Tensor tire, was sold to Custom wheel House, which was then acquired by Thompson Street Capitol.

Baja Designs & PRP seats, Speed Strap were sold to Best Top, which was then acquired  by Kinderhook Industries.

Super ATV bought Assault Ind and Keller earlier this year. Just this month Super ATV was sold to Dorman automotive parts.

Fox Shoxs was sold to Compass Diversified Holdings in 2008, which later changed Fox into Fox Factory Holdings and made a public traded company. It’s been rumored Fox Factory Holdings has recently bought Walker Evens Shocks, and is a vested partner in Shock Therapy.
Tensor New SS Sand tires are supposed to be great...anyone use them?
