What size winch for enclosed trailer and sandcar.

My thought was if I was stuck and if all else fails
I would open the rear door and wench the trailer and motor home backwards.
I never tried it.

I don't have winches in either of my trailers but the last time I had to suck my 4Runner into my enclosed we just hooked a snatch block onto my d-rings in the floor and ran the cable from a truck mounted winch through the side door.

My old sand car had a receiver built in to the rear cage. I made a portable winch deal to slide in and would hook it up to my battery. Mounted a big swivel ring in the floor to hook it to.

Thanks for posting this! I spent a couple of hours yesterday helping my 76 year old Dad correct a loading mistake he made with his Sand Limo into his enclosed and need to get him set up with an easier way to load the car. I suggested a Harbor Freight 5500 Long Drum winch and he was wondering if it could be mounted to the Buggy, not the trailer. I said, "I don't see why not, sure one of the guys on the forum (not TDBR, of course) has done it" and here it is.

This will save a lot of headaches!

I mounted a 2” hitch (female end) receiver to the frame under the floor of my enclosed up forward. Cut a hole in the floor to access it.
Welded a plate to the male end of the hitch tube and mounted a winch to the plate. Slip it in the hole when I need it and put a plastic hitch cover in the hole when I don’t.
I also mounted a bench vise to another plate and tube to slip in the hole when I need it.
One other thing I did was to mount a removable pulley to the rear door frame floor. Run the winch cable from the winch in the front of the enclosed to the pulley in the rear and then back to the front of the car. This will allow you to winch the car out of your enclosed.
BTW with the winch mounted to a plate on the hitch receiver tube will allow you to use it on any vehicle that has a 2” hitch receiver.

I now use one of these https://www.superwinch.com/winch2go-4000sr-synthetic-rope-1140232/ with 2 small straps to the frame of the rail, clips onto the battery. Hook side goes to the trailer. A friend of mine has this same winch mounted in his enclosed to pull his car in.

If it was broke broke, I could see it not being enough winch, but at that point would I want it in my toyhauler?
