What is everyone running for power steering pump and reservoirs? This style seems to work good and feels good at the steering wheel, but leaks alot and making a mess out of the whole front of my mid engine motor. The belt is slinging it all over the place. Ive had people say they all leak no matter what you do. Here is my current pump. Serial number is PA66-GF33. Looking for something that is a direct replacement that doesnt leak.

I have the exact same pump (and a spare). Mine leaks too. I think part of the problem with the stock reservoir is that the level is based upon the expansion of a lower total volume of fluid. What does that mean? There is a lot more total fluid in our cars, with the lines running from the front to the back, as opposed to a stock 2002 Camaro (the place that plump originated). As the fluid gets warmer it takes up more space and the allowance of free space in the stock reservoir isn't enough. I am slowly lowering the volume of fluid in the reservoir because when it gets hot it expands and then it leaks. There are certainly other options for remote reservoirs, but I would rather not rebuild that system (mounts etc) right now.

Upgrade to a Howe pump and reservoir. Both my race cars and play cars have them and they never let me down.

What is the path of least resistance to a non leaking unit
Aftermarket pump and reservoir is the only way I'm aware of.  Howe or ProAm reservoir with the screw top cap, seals up nicely.  Or maybe someone on here will chime in with a way to get the factory reservoir to not leak.  Curious to know as well.  One trick is to put fuel cell foam in the top to keep the liquid from splashing under he cap.  Not sure if it makes it 100% non-leaking though.

Thank you for the advise sir!

I have Hydraulic power steering on my car, but electronic power steering has come along way. I guarantee that wont leak...

I used this from chase bays, more of drift car stuff. It leaked like crazy till i drilled the breather hole in the cap, pressed an old small carb fitting and ran it to a catch can.  All good now

The factory style pumps all come with an aftermarket lid, GM quit making the cap. I had the same issue with my stock pump and got lucky and found a GM cap. It would leave a small amount of residue around the cap that the sand would stick to but didn't allow enough fluid to escape that it would run down the reservoir and get make a mess like that. I also ran a factory GM pump, not an aftermarket, don't know if that makes a difference as well. When upgraded my engine I switched to a howe pump with remote tank.

I have run the stock pump since 2004.   No leaks.

They leak from the cap.

I order the aftermarket cap from Amazon and then seal up the holes and cap with black RTV before I use it.

Dorman 82574 is the part number.

I have a very light car (2 seat mid engine 1400#).  Car size/weight will dictate what is best.

Had hydraulic (Howe pump to a Charlynn)...hated it.  It gave too much feedback and would cut out if you came off the throttle too fast and tried to turn.  I could have fixed it playing around with pulleys and such.  I scrapped it and went with electric.  For me, electric is WAY BETTER.  Always on, adjustable if you want it.  No worry of leaks or busted hoses.

Moved over to electric.  3 trips so far and I love it!  Just make sure you use a high quality 80amp breaker.  I didnt and the sand killed it.  It popped the breaker when I came to a stop at night with all my stuff on, did a full lock turn, and would not reset (cheap china one).

I was able to manual steer all the way back to camp though, so that was kinda nice to know I can always get home.  Put a sealed Bus brand in its place and it fired right back up.

I dont miss the mess from the PS mist I could never solve.

Did you keep the hydraulic rack?

No.  My Fortin rack was toast and so old it could not be salvaged.  I put Gear Ones manual rack on because it was a direct bolt on for my application.  Parker has assured me it will survive my 36" tires in a sand car application.

How has it been so far @r3meyer? Honestly thinking about going to electric. Had a steel braided line arc out on the battery and leak fluid all over the floor of my car. Talk about a mess.
