What do you do for work?

Own a welding company. Me and one other guy do it all. It sucks, but I do get to choose the 18 hours a day I work and we do get to do some cool jobs! Mostly residential stuff. Pays the bills, but would love to figure something else out so this doesn't have to be the #1 money maker haha

Gotta share something with respect to what I do in the Exhibit industry.
This exhibit is something I designed in 2008 and to this day is probably one of my favorite projects I worked on.
Ossur is a company that makes Prosthetics, Bracing & supports, and Nuero Orthotics. They came to us with a project that specs for a new bionic ankle.
They needed to show how people can navigate ramps and stairs with their technology. Things you don't think about is when a person with functioning legs goes to stand up, you kind of tuck your legs under your chair which in return you bend your ankle up so it is more flat to get up (you all are thinking about that now LOL)
Well, someone with prosthetics can't do that...till now. Also navigating stairs and ramps was an issue since they can't bend their ankle to match angles of descent or ascent.
The task was to design a space for product display as well as showcase how it works.
The parameters were specific, they wanted 10 steps up to a 12 degree ramp down. Well I had this thought of doing a helix that went around a stage and monitor for theater presentations. I had no idea if a double or even single amputee could navigate a helix but went for it!
On the day that we had this set up in our shop there were a couple Marines that were in Desert Storm and were amputees...one of them a double. The double amputee guy came up to me after navigating the stairs and that ramp down...came over to me after and asked...
"Did you design this?"
I said "yes I did"
He repsonded Thank you...I didn't know that I could walk up/down stairs or even a ramp, but to go around a corner and navigate a helix is something I didn't even think about doing!
WOW..it about brought tears to my eyes. I thanked him for his service and the sacrifice he made was unimaginable!
I still get choked up when I think about this project.... stupid sand in my eyes!
LOL
