This is standard operating procedure. It’s a way to keep people conducting shady business from VIN officer “shopping” or trying different officers until they find one who will do what the shady guy wants.I am in the process of getting my car transferred into my name. Car's a Nevada title and already has a vin plate, so I technically only need to get a Vin verification. On Friday I called Brawley PD to bring the car in. They said they no longer do verifications and told me to call CHP. I called CHP in El Centro and was told that they would not see me since I'm not a resident of Imperial County. They said I need to take my car home to Santa Clara County in order to have it inspected. This sounds like some BS to me. Does anybody have any recent experience dealing with this from another County ?
