This is spot on I had an 091 for five years in my rail all weddle, year 2 had to replace spider gears, sliders, synchros. On year five 091 was talking back in every gear, Ended up needing a new main(1/2) shaft new R/P. Went cheap with VW German R/P and used main shaft got five trips and ended with a total annihilation to the trans. Went to a 2d and had to re work the back of the car, axles, starter, exhaust motor mounts yaaaadyyaadd. If you find a cheap 2d that’s just the start.Seriously... isnt this like the song that never ends. Send your 091 in to get rebuilt. Could be 1k or 3k. Either way, that money could have been spent towards the 2d.
So, go with the 2d then? Sure, move motor, axles, and all the ish that goes with it.. Also, where are the 2Ds at? Hard to find one in stock, or rebuilt WITH the gearing you want...
So, stick with rebuilding the 091? cause dune season is 3 months away...
This is the song that never ends... it just goes on and on again...
Good luck with your decision... lol
PS.. where is my damn build post....
My builder 500$ for labor and mag. He always replaces bearings and gaskets says if it’s open you always should, new throw out Bering and the oil he likes to run. Always 7-800 on top of the replaced parts.Just curious. Who did you send it to and how much was the labor for rebuild?
What power are you running?im on year 3 with a j35 using all weddle ring pinion 4,57 and gears.Mine is the 002 gears in an 091 case.Just had it looked at earlier this year my builder said everything looked good i had to replace a mainshaft bearing but it was from another issue with clearance. That is fixed nowThis is spot on I had an 091 for five years in my rail all weddle, year 2 had to replace spider gears, sliders, synchros. Yo man had a 3.5 Honda A1 930cv 13.50 hole shot in the sand, 33” AT2 bfgs in the dirt. A1 locked up on me and replace it with an A3 3.5 did about three trips and blew the the R/P. Not sure if the A1 was tired as it went, but when i replaced it with the A3 version it was a noticeable power difference. Also this was 457 as well. What stage clutch were you running on that 091? I guess I am thinking of running a stage 3 clutch to have it slip/go out to save the tranny. Congrats. Now get it installed.Update, just got my trany back from Dave at McDowell Performance, Great experience, did what he said he was going to do and dint mind all my stupid question, definitely be going to him from now on.
Got a friend who is waiting on a mainshaft for a 2d hes been waiting a while he got lucky found a use done in good shape.Guy that bought that trans i had was same deal think he couldnt find enough parts to finish his.Had for sale since may and within a week had like 5 people interestedCongrats. Now get it installed.
What did you have done? I am on the "Weddle waitlist" as well. Kevin McMullin said earliest was October, but we both agreed by the end of the year is more reasonable.
I had a interior bearing flange break/ inside of where the CV flange is. Luckily it didnt take anything else out.Congrats. Now get it installed.

When you changed from the j35A1 to the J35A3, did you have to change your Kennedy adapter plate and flywheel? I think the A1 is usually has 2 bolts at the oil pan, and the A3 usually has 4 bolts at the oil pan? (per Kennedy)Yo man had a 3.5 Honda A1 930cv 13.50 hole shot in the sand, 33” AT2 bfgs in the dirt. A1 locked up on me and replace it with an A3 3.5 did about three trips and blew the the R/P. Thanks for the info....Can you tell me if your A3 has 2 bolts going into the Kennedy adapter plate at the pan, or 4 bolts? My A1 has 2 bolts (per attached pic) and Kennedy says the A3 will have 4 bolts, and I will have to change the adapter plate and flywheel. (but I think there was some variation in block styles within the same honda series motors)I used the same set up i did notice with the A1 there was an air gap between the oil pan my skid plate with the A3 it was up against the plate not sure if the pans are different. Adapter plate clutch motor mounts all stayed the same from A1/A3. I moved to a 2D trans from an 091 lot a changes had to made.

Hey appreciate the pics! I'm looking to go from a stock j35A1 to an rebuilt A3 with forged pistons and rods...and like I said, Kennedy said I would have to change to a new (4) bolt adapter plate. Thx man.
