I would only use McDowell for any transaxle. He is in El Cajon.

Make the drive to Rancho in Fullerton, CA. It'll be worth it. I send 10 transaxles there per year, just picked up a rebuilt S4D yesterday. Tell Sam I sent you.

Tranworks in El Cajon does good work. People seem to love or hate them. I have had nothing but good luck with all my 091's from Eric. Rancho or McDowell are solid too.

Dave McDowell some get turned off on how blunt he is, Iv had an 091 he built go five season all weddle though

Another McDowell fan here.  he did my 002 & now my 2D.

Dave Folts is the 091 master. I wouldn't go anywhere else. He does a large share of the vw racing transaxles.

I bought an S4 from dave. 11 years old and i just had it gone through for the first time.

Dave Mcdowell is a stand up guy. I would highly recommend him

Thanks everyone, now I just need to get the tanny out of the car.

Eric at Transwork is my vote , I believe everyone mentioned is great. Good luck and try not to launch to hard .

I also vote for Transworks, they've always been honest with me and at a fair price. I think they have a whole section on their website showing all of the upgrades they do to 091 trannies.

Thanks guys,  now I'm trying to figure out if it would be the time to upgrade to a 2D....

Seriously... isnt this like the song that never ends.  Send your 091 in to get rebuilt.  Could be 1k or 3k.  Either way, that money could have been spent towards the 2d.

So, go with the 2d then?  Sure, move motor, axles, and all the ish that goes with it..  Also, where are the 2Ds at?  Hard to find one in stock, or rebuilt WITH the gearing you want...

So, stick with rebuilding the 091? cause dune season is 3 months away...

This is the song that never ends... it just goes on and on again...

Good luck with your decision... lol

PS.. where is my damn build post....

Yup that's the struggle, what I should do is just get the 091 repaired and functional and enjoy a nice season, but what's the fun in doing what you should do. Haha
