So we are looking at buying a dump trailer. This trailer  in Ontario with spare is $7993 including tax. That includes upgrading $500 to 5200lb axles. Jumps the payload from 3800 to 6500. No brainer to spend the extra 500.  Round trip single day turn around from Phoenix I figure $350 in fuel to go pick it up. 3-4 weeks to get.

Similar trailer in Phoenix is $8575 plus tax so pushing $9500 out the door. Best price I can find for a similar trailer.

We have been borrowing a Big Tex 10SR for the last couple of years to do pine needles up north.  That trailer is 3410 lbs empty and only has 2' tall sides. One of those in Phoenix priced over $12k before tax.

So what gives? Stellar trailer sales in Cali overall has pretty good reviews. Also we will never load this trailer to the max. Mostly lighter loads. From what I am seeing it is $1150 difference to drive to Cali and buy a trailer. ($1500-$350 for fuel)

After 2 weekends of all of us raking pine needles we have this pile in the driveway.  It is a Mega job every summer.Pics don't do Justice how big this pile really is. Right now the big tex trailer with 2' sides even packed down would take 2 loads to go dump. With the higher 4' sides we might be able to jam at all into one load.

Called Joe at Stellar back so I could understand the taxes. He said we must pay the 7.75% Cali tax as soon as the tires hit the road. If I put the trailer on a trailer we would not have to pay Cali tax. They then give us a Cali plate and registration good for 5 years. I assume in AZ there is a time limit to get it registered here. He then said if AZ tax is higher we would pay the difference and if lower we would get a refund for the difference. Sounds odd to me. Anyone know if this is correct?

Bucket extension added for bigger loads

I would trailer it out.  Not giving CA a stinking dime if I don't have to.  You would get screwed somehow.
I was thinking the same. Talked to a guy this afternoon on this trailer. It can be bought for $9150.00 inc AZ tax. Then a plate.  It includes the roller tarp kit which is $500 to add to the other trailer.  The ram is lower and a different design. What do you think about each design from the pics? GD.Com CSI what do you think? This one also has the ramps/bobcat kit. Although we don't need it now and have a flatbed to haul the tractor or other equipment if needed. Still nice to have as part of the package. I can go look at this trailer 7 miles from my house. Nicer wheels as well if those are standard. Numbers are a lot closer together and would love not driving to Cali if possible. Hmm

Front cross piece on the cali trailer is box.

Front cross piece on the AZ trailer is channel. Not sure it makes much difference.  This trailer also has 6000 lb axles and the cali trailer has 5200lb axles.

The Cali trailer has this additional bar whereas the AZ trailer does not. I assume it has something to do with the roll up tarp?

Have you tried Jacks Sons Trailer Sales, or Bishops?

Tax reciprocity:

That being said… One problem with the trailer and you’ve cut a third of your savings assuming it can be fixed while you wait. Local is almost always better unless there’s a network of dealers or whatever.

What area is that? Beautiful.
Mormon Lake AZ

No I will give them a shout.

It’s the upper latch for the door system and it keeps the door posts plumb as well. Helps when filling with brush and packing it down - makes the doors easier to open.

OK See it and got it. Not sure why they did it that way. Here is the back of the AZ Trailer.

Talked to the AZ trailer guy again and he said the manufacturer is quoting 2600 lbs empty weight. CA trailer is 3200. No way that is correct. They are very close to each other.  AZ trailer does NOT come with the ramps at the 8575 price. It is 9075 with the bobcat ramps. Don't really need them anyway. We could order one without the tarp but it is only $350 so not worth leaving it off. He thinks the Stellar ram is smaller from looking at the pics. His is a 12,000lb ram. I need to run by and look at this trailer.

Steller has 134 reviews with 4.6 out of 5 but this one concerned me a little bit.

We bought a heavy duty dump trailer 3 months ago. The salesman forgot to send the remote for the hydraulic dump. Called him and he said he mailed it. Weeks go by and nothing. I’ve called and texted him numerous times and he will not respond.

As for the trailer…within the first few weeks of use both gate latches we’re broken. Cheaply attached with poor craftsmanship. Last week the hydraulic dump got stuck in the fully lifted position and would not lower. Hydraulics no longer work. Haven’t even used it 20 times.

We spent over $11,000 on this trailer. Do not waste your money here.

Have you looked into trailers in New Mexico or Texas ?  Last year they were cheaper than CA, NV or AZ

Also in CA you need a CDL to tow a dump trailer with a 10k GVWR and above. Is AZ similar ?
