Traffic on the 78 today...

back here on the east coast b4 I left for work this morning I jumped on the boardmanville web cam so it was 3:30 am in the dunes and still a good amount of lights on top of olds and there was people out in the dunes ripping around.1st year in a long time I have not made halloween out there due to work being crazy busy and not having enough help but hope to be out there in a few weeks with the hole family for a quiet off weekend to enjoy some relaxing and time with the kids in the dunes.

Did not appear to be an issue all weekend.  Huge dust and line of campers heading into the washes on Friday.  Place was packed for Camp RZR.

Gecko was pretty smooth which was great to see.

been duniing all am with empty dunes

gonna finish up some clean up on the toys and have a good fire tonight and head home in the am!!!

great weekend for sure! Fun to watch the shanigans of people loading up / saw some funny stuff

these guys drove in the can am with the 2 led whips on / it was funny watching them ratchet them back trying to get them out!! Lunch AND a show

I’m not sure if I’m the only one but the older I get the shorter the trips seem. When I was younger, I wouldn’t get to the desert til 10pm on a Friday night. Three good dune runs on Saturday. One good ride Sunday morning and load up and head home. That was the norm. Now it isn’t enough. I need more time. I take an extra day off and it still isn’t enough! chit show or not, the desert is still my sanctuary.

I agree with you...................As I am getting older, I am trying to stay longer almost every trip, why does 4 days still feel short?

When I was young, doing a bonsai trip Saturday morning only to leave 24 hours later seemed worth it, a long tip was arriving thursday night or friday morning.  Not anymore now arrival thursday at a minimum  or it's not worth the time sitting in the truck driving.

Although the second half of this season I will be leaving the valley on friday afternoon for all of my trips, might have to start going on the dreaded sunday morning quick run.  That run just always seems cursed to me especially if you get that real good run on saturday evening.

Wish I could do the longer 10 day trips those are the ones that truly reset your brain.

I think as we get older, time spent doing what we enjoy is more precious.....so each minute, hour, day is appreciated more then when we are young.

I think I saw this in IG with a caption that it took 3 1/2 hours to get from wash 11 or something to the 78. Absolutely, without a doubt. Hell no. Just sit in camp. It makes no different if you leave now or in 4 hours since you'll be sitting on a dirt road at 3 mph. When will people get the hint. You either leave at 7am or at 8pm.

i left wash 15 at about 9 ish, traffic stopped about wash 9, took about an hour to get out. other person in my group left about 40min after me stopped at wash 14 took over 2 hours to get out. i think part of the problem was wash 6, it was about 4 wide of people leaving wash 6 trying to merge on the road, i was trying to be nice to let the next person merge in and then 2 others cut in front the person i was trying to let merge and then someone went right behind him. one spot is not worth an accident or issues, but still a jerk move. people like that just make it worse. and then the rangers insead of trying to help keep things moving were just posted up checking everyones passes. he didnt notice my season pass on the windshield and started walking toward me got half way and turned around. made me laugh a little. but they could of been alot more help getting traffic going not just sitting in a truck looking for passes.

I had one Ranger stop me for no front license plate once.  Thought he was going to pull me thru the window when my reply was, "My Governor said I don't need one" It was at that time the guy working the back end of my rig said "Zonie" and I was reluctantly signalled to move on.

The other problem I've noticed is the "flats campers, myself included" turning out of the bathrooms towards the tracks adds to the traffic holding up the wash line waiting to turn onto the 78. If only there was a way to camp on the other side of the tracks and cross under the... oh wait, that's far too dangerous...

Left the washes at 10AM, got home at 2pm.  Usually takes about 3.5 hours with a stop at In N Out on the way home, so about 30 minutes in that line to leave.
