Now that I have a kid, our trips no longer focus on only the destination as was the protocol in my 20's and 30's... now we like to stop along the journey and see what's out there that has been missed.

One of these examples would be 24th Street Cafe on the way to Yosemite in Bakersfield. I never would have stopped anywhere in that shithole town if I didn't have a kid with me. But, we did... and it was very worth it.

I have been hearing for about 3 decades now about how awesome the Town Pump in Westmoreland is.

Anyone have any feedback? Any of you regulars there on your trips? I think I'll have to stop there on my next G trip and take it all in. Would appreciate any info that would help the experience out. Reviews (and past comments on here) are mostly positive but there are some bad reviews.

And yes, I'm aware of Mike's family's shop, Ramey's Meats in Brawley. This is the opposite end of that spectrum.

Thanks, in advance.

We will call ahead and order steak sandwiches to go. Never sat down in there. Prices are not bad to eat, drinking will drive that up. On a side note, I just ate at Brownies in Brawley for the first time. Breakfast was good.

Couple trips a season for me and absolutely worth it. The decor is a bit dated but their steaks are legit. Brandt, Wagyu, etc and prices are reasonable for what you get. Believe the 16oz aged Brandt boneless ribeye was ~$55 and whoever is cooking is on point - every steak I have had there is exactly what you should expect, not the typical guessing game of "what is your medium". Everything is reasonably priced and well worth it.
