Student Loan Forgiveness

They won't lower the interest rates because that does not look like they are doing anything.  Saying we will forgive $10,000 sounds better than we will lower your interest rate by 2%.   The reality is the $10,000 they are forgiving for most will be paid back in interest over the life of the student loan which are typically a 10 year repayment, but most students get consolidation loans that extend the terms to 20-30 years.

It is kind of like when a mortgage company says they will forgive a few months of payments to only add it to the back end or when the auto loans say no payments for the first 90 days.  They all get their money eventually.

Good thing they changed the law in the 1970s so a student cannot file bankruptcy on student loans.
Saying they will forgive $10k sounds better for the students with debt, but it's pissing off the taxpayers who feel they are actually paying for it. There are a lot more taxpayers than student debtors, so they're angering the majority to buy the votes of a minority.

The reality is the tax payers are not paying anything by them forgiving the $10,000.  A chunk of the $10,000 being forgiven was just interest that was accruing while the students were still in school and as I stated they will get back that $10,000 over the life of loan in interest.  It is a talking point for the media to rile people up and it is obviously working.   They are forgiving $10,000 to people that are going to vote for them anyway.

Now if they were forgiving up to $50,000 or the entire loan that would be a different story.

So you're saying that only Democrats took out student loans?

I didn't want any part of the stimulus. I have no debt, a secure job w/ house and live below my means. But there was no way to opt out of what the handout was going to do (Inflation). I didn't know how bad it would be but knew it was going to be bad. I might as well take the handout since I knew I was going to suffer inflation no matter what. Currently in school at 45 years old to get an electronics degree. I don't need the money, I'm just bored. I can afford to pay for the degree since vocational classes are cheap but my employer is picking up the bill.
The handout didn't create this mess, intentionally killing supply chains across all markets did... still the same initiators just a different directive. They want everyone to be poor so they can push their socialist bullshit

Shutting down the world played its part for sure. But if like I do, you believe that inflation is caused by too many dollars chasing too few goods/services, you can see that printing money that wasn't earned, and giving it to people who didn't create goods or services for it will add to inflation. Your flip side is that there are fewer goods and services to go along with that printed money due to the shutdown.

Funny how the MSNBC talking points get around.....Oh it's just like the PPP loans....  Bullshit... it's people who are to irresponsible to be adults throwing a tantrum until they get what they want.... I'm good, I'll be dead when they are all struggling in their lives because they can't make rational decisions....We see it in the work place now...just a new generation that isn't worth a crap for the most part.

Eff this bailout!

This is total BS and a blatant way to buy votes for the WORST Administration the US has EVER had!

And yes, we are still paying on my wife's student loan, but EFF this SH*T!

However....my Mortgage identifies as a Student Loan...

:bag:

Only debt I have is my home.

It’s called hard work and living within your means. If you borrow money you pay it back.
Don’t write a check your ass can’t catch. All we are doing is teaching this generation is you get a trophy for coming in last and if you can’t hack life someone will be there to bail you out.

This is a sink or swim world kids, the sooner you figure that out the better off you will be.

Their continuous use of the printing press is definitely an issue, did you see the chit going on in the Netherlands? They're trying to kill their food growth and distribution network there on a larger scale than here. They're breeding an international crisis out of their greed.

I was raised that life is like a indians left breast, It's not fare and it's not right. This goes so far beyond fare and right, this insults the parents & students who sacrificed to go to school with limited debt or no debt or had made sacrifices to pay off the loans already. We won't even go into what it does to the people who were or have enlisted in the military just so they can go to school later.

All the smart kids will consolidate their student loans, my boys consolidated all their loans into one and got the interest rate down to 5%.  I think the current rates on those student loans from our Government are near to 9%.  That being said because they consolidated, and now the loans are personal loans, zero loan forgiveness coming their way.  There needs to be a better system than borrowing money from the Gov to fund your education.

I do feel if you got a PPP loan and now are complaining about student loans, you are a hypocrite.  PPP loan process was broken, but the gov hand to get the money out fast.  To this day I haven't received a penny from the gov, I just keep paying.

Can I identify as low income and not pay any taxes next year.......

Regarding PPP, no, its not "MSNBC talking points getting around".  It is fact, and all of those facts are a matter of public record.  You can look up PPP Loan Amounts/Loan Forgiveness amounts by zip code, and it is shocking to see who got free money and how much.  Did hospitals shut down for COVID? Did Law Firms shut down for COVID?  Did beer distributor ships shut down for COVID?  Did Farm Labor Contractors shut down for COVID?  No.  With the exception of businesses that were actually shut down for long periods of time by the government (restaurants, bars, etc), I would bet COVID was actually a boom for most businesses in the long run, after a couple weeks of an adjustment period.  Yet people who have already made their fortunes were awarded hundred of billions of dollars, newly printed and/or borrowed from China, so that they could buy second and third houses, private planes, high end RVs, etc. etc.  And during all of this, the only "adults throwing a tantrum until they get what they want" that I saw were large business owners yelling at bankers because their PPP "loan" applications weren't getting processed fast enough.  We got got, and it really pisses me off.

The USA is fast becoming a collection of people that just want to "get theirs", no matter the consequence.  Its just that when some people do it, they consider themselves smart and astute businessmen.   Then, they stand upon their high horse and proclaim the evils of anyone standing below them trying to do the very same thing.

I can't believe how high the interest rates are for student loans.  When I was in school many moons ago it was 3%.

Reminds of a group of friends that I have that are all trust fund or inherited a self running business from the family.  They barely work as in put in a a good 1-2 hours a week, but complain how lazy workers are today.  LMAO!!!!!

The PPP loans and watching that circus was good times.  The RV industry, boat industry, and powersports industry would be gone without all those PPP loan recipients spending money on all that.

Why are interest rates so high for a student loan?  Because they have convinced today's youth that you have to have a college degree or else you are digging ditches so you must have one.  Then .gov guarantees your going to pay it back. They will lend a 18 year old 150K who has never even had a credit card in his life or held a job.  All with the carrot of it will be like $60/ month and your going to be making over $100K per year you won't even notice it.

FYI, I have never met a single person that said they wanted loan forgiveness, this is 100% about buying votes.  Biden promised this, but then again he promised a much bigger dollar amount. The guy is Clownshoes

$10,000 really only helps the people that took loans out and never finished college with a degree, a lot of these peeps have loans in the $20k or lower range.  $10,000 really doesn't do much immediately for the people that $50k plus in loans, which is most.  To go to Cal State school or even NAU in Flag, $100k minimum with housing and tuition.  The big issue is the loan or the interest, how in the hell did college get so expensive over the last 20-30 years.  The Loan system is keeping the schools afloat.  The other big issue in these loans, is a lot of that money is covering living expenses and supports every rental around these campuses, big ugly money circle driven by our Government loans.

I have my last kid in college (at Long Beach), two older kids graduated, one with $50k in debt, the other with 25k in debt, the last will graduate with about 25k in debt and have a nursing degree.  So I have lived this college money world for the last 7 years, with multi kids in school at the time.  At least two are off the payroll living and working on their own.

One of the young guys that works with me is in the hole for $225k. He is selling capitol equipment.  $225k didn't even get him a Master's...

another thing about this racket, you know you makes the decisions on your loan and how much you get?   the college!!!!  let that sink in...................

But if Trump proposed this...OH HEELLLLLLLLLLL NOOOOOOOOO

Booo Orange Man....bad man, mean tweeter, no gooder. He's racist paying for only white kids to go to school!

However, if we take the wise words of what Kamala would or could say about this if she could actually and would actually talk about what this could or would be then she would and could talk about this in a way that could be taken or in fact would be taken so that those that could listen and would listen could and would actually listen..... :bag:

"You see, student loans are loans for students in that what is loaned to them as a student then perhaps gets loaned as a loan and in time that loan would be construed as a loan to the student in the form of a student loan that the student would then pay on as a loan, loaned to the student!" ~ Kamala (DUMB AS ROCKS) Harris
