Speed UTV

This is a big deal. Word was Robby and Todd were telling people this case was resolved. Clearly it’s just beginning. The fact the Judge awarded TAPP a preliminary injunction and Speed can’t make, import, sell, use or offer TAPP primary clutches is huge. This means in order for Speed to be able to sell a car they will have to retrofit with the KWI clutch which as of now is a $6000 accessory upgrade. So do they increase the price of the car 2-3K to cover it?

What if Speed has not refunded your deposit money and is trying to sell your car on their lot. Or your posting on the MarketPlace that you’re selling your spot and the car is at Speed Anaheim. Now that car is unsalable unless the clutches are changed out. Who covers that cost? Is Speed under breach of contract as the car is in sellable as is?

What if your a deposit holder that now will take the car they are under contract on? I’d assume Speed is liable to upgrade the car with KWI clutch package at no charge?

Can Speed even get KWI clutch kits, which is clutches, covers, ducting, side number plate intake. Last I heard & read people who ordered them, only a few received them. Most still have not. And are these customer unproven clutch’s going to be the fix? Or are they just another cheap knock off the original design.

Lastly Speed UTV is very lucky they have another clutch brand to use. If they had not made a deal with KWI, they would not have any possible clutches and literally out of business.

What ever transpired can not be good for the future. I’m sure the vendors and aftermarket for sxs is not big and this news spreads like poison in the industry. Even affecting other vendors practices dealing with future sales. Tough spot.

I’m late to the party can someone provide the condensed version of the injunction?

Speed UTV seems like it’s turning out to be like every other product from China.🇨🇳. Full of broken parts and lawsuits. Problems that are infront of everyone.

1. Overheating problems. $4000 cooling update.
2. Catastrophic engine failures. $14,000 engine replacement.
3. Between 800-1200 miles the bearings in transmission fail causing catastrophic transmission failures $12,000 replacements.
4. Front differential are constantly leaking.
5. Brakes completely suck $4000 retrofit.
6. Steering completely suck $4000 retrofit.
7. Clutches disintegrate $13,000 KWI replacement.
8. Axles break $700 each axle replaced with the same part that will break again.
9. Driveshaft failure that can cause severe damage when it breaks. “Transmissions, shift cable, driveshaft, front differential”
10. Seatbelts will not latch or will not release.
11. Lots of electrical failures and small components like starters and alternators.
12. Good luck trying to change the oil on your own.
13. Grease axles every 250 miles.
14. Heim joints wear out prematurely.

Could go on and on these are some of the major failures known. It’s hard to know what the real failure numbers are as nobody has seen the numbers of failures on these parts from Speed. Doubt Speed keeps keeps track. Some people are still waiting for delivery I hear.

That's a significant list of issues.

If the MFG Speed UTV covered the main failed items under warranty vs selling a retrofit to fix the obvious design issue.... maybe
If there was an established Dealership network with available parts.... maybe
If they were assembled in the USA or even adjacent Mexico .... maybe

The "Maybes" are huge items IMHO, all the MFG have issues......Speed just doesn't have a product that is mass market ready. It's a car made for racers and an open check book.

Every person I know with a Speed car has had a lot of issue, from engine and transmission replacements. All have dumped the cars and bought other brands already. Very sad in the big picture.

Sad for your friends but not sad for Robby. He did not deserve success in this arena.

Brandon Hollander who is HM and has been building all the fixes for the Speed’s announced he was completely done with Speed and is selling his Speed’s. He commented that Speed’s origination is a mess and he’s over it.

IMO when guys like this are over it, it’s not a positive sign for the brand. It’s because of him that pushed Speed into making many of the fixes, or “race accessories” to fix and compete with HM’s fixes and better parts. Basically Speed steals other people’s fixes and then charges a Speed upgrade for those fixes.

HM has said he will still help Speed customers and stock HM design Speed parts. But he is moving on. He’s now got a couple Polaris Expeditions and is building parts for them.

Strange way to think. More competition in the market place is better for the customer. It increases innovation and reduces cost. I don't care for the way Speed executed their release nor their service, but to wish failure on someone is weird.

Not weird at all.

He uses customers for R&D and steals designs for fixes to his piss poor finished product that he claimed OVER AND OVER was superior to all.

The fact that people like you think he should get away with what he's done to and with his customers is more of an accurate definition of "weird" than my view of his "business".

You're half right, he has done those things and they are wrong. Apparently you didn't read what I said. I never said he should do those things and that it's good business practice. I clearly stated I don't care for his/Speed's execution of bring a their utv to market.

Wow, that's a big deal. He put a ton of blood, sweat, and tears into trying to make those cars right. I wonder what the RG boot lickers think of that?

He’s not done. Go check his post on the Speed Forums.

He’s done owning a Speed and dealing with Speed owners & management.

He did say he would continue to sell his HM upgraded Speed parts and support his customers as long as he owns the Speed aftermarket parts business of HM. But even that is for sale if someone wanted to buy it and take that over.

Unfortunately he is proving what many are and were afraid of. Brandon said Speed refuses to sell him parts for his own cars or to fix customer cars. So if Speed gets upset with you, they can block you, make it difficult to get parts or warranty coverage as they control and approve the repairs too.

Bottom line is the car’s design on paper is 100%. The execution was about 75% and is not around 85% of where the car needs to be. Problems I see is the lack of quality control with his contract manufacturer, and not having the say who your sub-suppliers are. Then the other huge issue is the lack foundation the brand is built on, and the management running it.

The best thing that could ever happen is if Speed was to hire an experienced, educated CEO from a company that worked in manufacturing. Let them take the helm and control the day to day operations and business. Let them bring in the right people and put people on positions Speed does not even have now.

Then RG can go imagine & design the next UTV, buggy or truck in his workshop. He can go race with Max. TR can go Kite surf and bike ride, and both can just let the money roll in every month without having to actually be the guy in the captains seat trying to keep the wheels turning. But I think ego & greed would not and will not allow that to happen. So they will struggle, lose customers, fight production quality and have to keep finding the next Asia made whatever to sell and bring in revenue to keep what they have afloat.
