This is interesting. My subscription ended and they renewed at an elevated price. Every year I call and tell them I want to cancel my subscription. They send me to a a retention specialist and they give me a new discounted rate usually around 5 buck a month. I just went thru this again and they would not discount the subscription....So they canceled it.

Pretty crazy

I have done the same thing for years now.  I renew in March 2022.  If I get the same service as you, then it will be canceled as well.

I go through this every time too.  I just added my boat and told them I would not pay full price and to make it the same as my other vehicles.  They did and then told me, call back next year to get the adjusted rate.

Living in Havasu, they kind of have me by the balls on this.  Without it, I wouldn't have radio...

Weird.  I had to cancel a few years ago because we had it in like 5 of our vehicles and a hand-held device (picked it up the year the SJ Sharks went to the Stanley Cup Finals and I was going to be in the deeeeeeep woods in Idaho during Finals, lol) and we just never used them.  They just about paid me to stay, but I had zero interest in continuing the service.  I guess the jig is up, and they know everybody just calls and threatens to cancel to get a deal?

Yeah maybe they are catching on who knows. Better to have someone paying a little less than not at all.

Funny thing is I just went on and renewed my subscription for 4 month free. LMAO. After that ends I will do the same and see if they give me a discounted rate. If they dont I will cancel again and renew for free again LOL

I keep the agreement right at hand so I can cancel prior to end of contract. Then I wait for them to send me the deal. Just looked, my cancel date is May 20, 2022.

I'd imagine all your cars/boat that have Sirius have BT radios.  Just stream something from your phone.  Pandora, Spotify, a radio station APP, etc..

On the contraire...  That would assume I have cell signal everywhere I need it.

I don't.

I go lots of places I don't have service.  I just DL some albums and playlists on Spotify (and make sure you keep them current, Spotify nukes them after some period of time).  There's no reason for me to have Sat anymore.  It's not like the Sharks are ever making the 'Cup Finals again anyway. 😉

My wife deals with them.  Same schtick every time.  I use Sirius 100% for Howard Stern.  Without him, I'd bail on it.  Music stations suck.

If I want music, Pandora or Spotify.  Or make Amazon playslists.

Just get the radios with the lifetime subscription. A lot cheaper than paying per month or an annual subscription.

I don’t think they offer those “lifetime” radios anymore that was early in thr Howard/Sirius days and tied to the hardware so if/when it died you were SOL.

I have 3 of them that are 8-10 yrs old, still going strong.

There are currently 77 of them for sale on Ebay, with all premium channels included. Some of them are still under $200, surprisingly.

Do Amazon music. You download the songs to your phone and you don't need cell service. You make an "Offline Playlist"  I listen to it on the plane and in Glamis win cell service sucks.  If you already have Amazon Prime its free.

I’ve been a Sirius subscriber since round 05. I was originally locked into a annual price. But when my unit died, they said my contract could not transfer over to the new unit. So from that point on, I’ve had to call and negotiate my renewal. I always start off pissed as you have some new guy getting 6 months for $20 and they are trying to rape me, a long time customer with two subscriptions. By the end they always get it down to a reasonable price for both cars. I just hate having to play the game. If they just renewed me for the same rate each year, I’d not even worry about it and let them auto charge the card. But they would prefer to get greedy and make me call. At some point I’ll say F it! But right now it’s all I listen too.

I've had SIRIUS since 2004 but I will not be renewing next time it's up.  Started off with one unit for $11.99/month and a second unit for $8.99/month.  If I paid 6 months at a time with an automatic renewal they knocked it down to $9.99 and $6.99 per month.  When my radios Crap themselves and I had to get two new units and SIRUIS raised the price and said the old radios had a 'new' contract, similar to @NIKAL situation.  Whatever, I absolutely loved SIRIUS for the commercial free music and no DJ's yapping all the time.  They had a great channel selection and, again, just music.

When Stern announced his contract with SIRUIS I was stoked because I was a listener since he came to the LA radio market around 1992ish.  The Stern show started off great but quickly changed, and not for the better.  He almost immediately added commercials and then cut his week from 5 to 3 days over the years.  Ok, show was still good, but that changed too.

The merger with XM was announced and Stern wouldn't shut up about it.  His 'bonus' was based on subscriptions gained after he signed and he figured if the merger went through those were to be considered new subscribers. A judge saw it differently and he lost his court case.  But the real merger damage was already done.  SIRIUS/XM cut channels, added commercials, and the worst thing- yapping DJ's.  Then they became Top 40 radio, same songs every few hours. The worst is Ozzy's Boneyard where they play Black Sabbath or Ozzy every 10 effing songs.

A few years back I didn't renew SIRIUS and they sent me countless emails offering different deals and finally offered 1 year for $39.99 so I went for it and then called to ask about online access and they gave that to me for $20.  Sweet deal.

I was listening less and less to Stern because the show became him whining about everything and it got boring.  The Trump bashing was really bad and annoying but the final straw was his interview with Hillary Clinton.  Complete joke, zero questions I'd come to expect from Stern and was a multi hour azz kissing fest about how great she was for New York.  I haven't listened to Stern since then.  I have flipped to his station a few times and for whatever reason it seems he's always yelling at one of his staff members for being an alcoholic, dumbass, dirty, etc.  The show isn't what it used to be and it's too bad.  I can't even imagine listening to his take on Covid but I read somewhere that he locked himself down in his Hampton house and did the show from there.  I also saw an article that he just renewed his contract and immediately took 3 months off for a summer break.  The article said listeners/subscribers were PISSED!

I got Spotify before last sand season so my kids and I could have a variety of music in the dunes.  My kids were sick of my iPod with Slayer, Clutch, Danzig, etc.  As I type this I'm listening to the Joe Rogan podcast on Spotify.  There are tons of other podcasts on Spotify I'm finding and so far I love the service.  I have my own playlist and add to it when someone tells me about a band I've never heard.  My kids also have their own playlists and my daughter made one that takes a little bit form each of ours for our 'dune' music in Glamis.

I got a new to me 2014 Duramax recently and it has a Kenwood head unit with SIRIUS option but it needs hardware.  Eff that.  It also has Bluetooth so my phone syncs automatically and I listen to Spotify pretty much all the time.  I will not renew my SIRIUS whenever it expires.

The last couple years we paid $5 per month per car, this year it auto renewed(first time) and it was $20 for  the month :joe:  called them and had them put both back to the $5 or cancel so they adjusted back down, I also told them they DO NOT have permission to bill my CC again without calling first.

Pretty sure it’s their business model to do the rate hike and wait for people to cancel... just like directv.

I have some great playlists on pandora and really digging that lately, wife has Spotify. Heck I am old school and still have hundreds of songs on my phone that I downloaded from iTunes back in the day

when I tune in for music... I want music! All the DJ/talk show people need to STFU
