Septic Systems - School Me!

I take a dump, flush my toilet and it instantly becomes somebody else's problem.

It doesn't go to a secret lair buried in my yard to ferment and peculate for years...

I'm glad I don't have this as a "necessity"
It is nice to NOT have to pay those sewer fees every month!

Ive been told it comes down to how much soap and chemicals you use. Best tip is to pump it often. Its only a couple hundred bucks. We waited and waited. Didnt even know where the septic tank was. I started digging and finally found it. Once it was pumped we felt it was a mistake to put it off. Its a guessing game because you cant see how high up the solids are in the 1st tank. I was not home but told the septic guy just puts a long pole down the tank to determine how filled it is. With that info he tells you if pumping was needed or a little premature. The reason you pump is to keep the solids from filling the 1st tank completely and overflowing into the secondary.

Sucks to be this guy..

If that is your job, how bad is your life?  I just don't see the end of his day ending with " Hi Honey how was your day?"

Competition has to be low, which means labor value is high.

Just when you thought YOUR job sucked!

In many third world sht holes they don't have septic tanks as we know them.  They are just sht cisterns that need to be pumped out regularly.

When I was working in the middle east it seemed like 1 in 5 trucks on the road was a honey dipper...  Nearly every house and business was on a "vault'.

There was also the “poo pond”. Good times when the base flooded…

Pump every 5 years. Good to know if problem developing before it gets out of hand. No additives. No cloth wipes or tampons. Regular TP. Have yet to replace and have had a bunch.

Seepage pit over leach field if you are going new. Doesn’t take up as much designated space.
