Safety in the dunes: Do you ride with a First Aid kit?

Most of us have first aid kits in our homes and even RVs but do you have a first aid kit with you in the dunes and do you know how to use it? Being prepared by always having some basic supplies and the knowledge and skills to use them could save someone's life. What is in your FA kit? What would you add or take away for your "ride or die" kit?

SAM Splint
2x triangle bandage/cravat
2x 2x2 gauze
2x 4x4 gauze
1x roller gauze
1x occlusive bandage
CPR shield
Tape
Scissors
Tweezers
2x butterfly bandage
Band-aids
Liquid Benadryl (for unconscious)
Glucose
Electrolyte tabs
Burn cream
Neosporin
Alcohol wipes
Tourniquet
Any prescriptions required for myself or passengers

I maintain several of these basic kits and take them hiking, boating, you name it... it's almost always with me. I also grow from that point tailored to the location or activity, you can't always take the kitchen sink with you when you have to carry everything including food and water for 10+ days 😉

If you don't have a good kit already check these guys out: https://tactmedinfo.com/ theeir products are top notch and their knowledge as first responders is right on. They build these kits with quality items, I have their Recreation bag with my own items added, it goes everywhere. In the dunes I have the Elite bag with me, compensating for people and situations that aren't prepared.

I got a small safety kit  from the Cat dealer. As far as being able to use the kit yes.  If it’s a major issue I hope I wouldn’t freak out.  

 
Have you seen that blood Stop Powder. It works amazing something I'm totally adding to the first aid kits

If it's the same stuff I'm thinking, I was told to be extremely careful to not get in you're eye's as you will be F-ed.

QuikClot makes bandages with clotting material.  I keep them in all my 1st aid kits.

 
Yes you do need to read the cautions about use.  eyes are a no no.   I am going to have to stock up on some items with the clotting material. 

 
Thought I would resurrect this thread as it didn’t get much attention the first time around. Pretty important topic especially when you have to deal with an injury and you are unprepared to do so. I approached my first aid kit with the mindset of keeping someone  alive until help arrives. Tourniquet, splints, pressure bandages, chest seal, blood clotting agent, compressed gauze to name just a few items. Knowing how to use these items are equally as important as having them in the first place.  If you had a major injury in your group, are you prepared to help until help arrives?

 
I have a trama kit that I have in my trailer but should be carrying it in my car.

It's that time of year to start preparing for the season, bumping up this thread to bring awareness and consideration.
 
I need a small kit for a backpack, since we all ride Quads at the moment.

In my old group one of the guys was in training to be a Paramedic. He builds this kit that had everything in it, even had a Mouth-to-Mouth mask thing. The entire kit fit into the biggest fanny pack I ever saw. He rode with that thing on his waist for the entire Thanksgiving trip. Never had to beak it out once by the end of the weekend the only person that got injured was him. Slight little crash on his wheeler would have been a nothing accident if it wasn't for that big pack around his waist. He was out for the rest of the season. Seems the weekend of this thing bouncing around on his lower back and the one time he landed on it did a number on his kidneys.
 
Good reminder. Had this on the wish list for the RZR and forgot all about it. I keep a bigger version of the same in the trailer along with some Quick clot and tourniquets.

I carry a package of quick clot. Anything beyond that is going to jerry rigged to get back to camp.
 
I ride with the @ChEFF

I figure he can throw me over his shoulder and carry me back, if I get hurt. 👍🏼
 
I carry a simple First Aid kit, but also carry Tourniquet and blood clotting stuff. Being in a situation in the past that we couldn't do much due to the fact an artery was severed, this is what I focus on. Stop blood from leaking then proceed is my goal.
