RIP Pete Rose

Ohtani should have been shown the door with a lifetime ban as well. That would have made it crystal clear to everyone that you don't bet, and nobody employed by you bets on Baseball.
Pete received and served a lifetime ban, The sentence we served he needs to go in and the reason he was passed up needs to be included.
Want to gamble go ahead and gamble on anything but baseball for as long as you are employed in anyway by MLB just don't do it. There are plenty of other sprots you can bet on, but you don't shit where you eat.

Wasn't all his gambling stuff after he retired from playing?
He never bet on his own team, right???

I think they should have put him in.
He was the coach of the team and while he never bet against his team. It doesn't take too much math to get from never bet against his team to the team might not of covered the spread or manipulate the spread in a way to help out the people he was gambling with.

If you're not betting on Baseball, there is no doubt in anyone's minds that no shenanigans are going on PERIOD

24 seasons for the Reds, Phillies and Expos. He had a .303 batting average, 4256 hits, 160 home runs, 1314 RBIs and 2165 runs scored
that right there deserves to be in the HOF!
What he did after...well that's too bad he was a gambler, but stats don't lie. he was a great player.

I think they should have put him in.

In the interview I saw him do, he said he did bet on his own team...

To win!!!

Never to loose. Still, like Mike said, he never should have crossed that line.

He was a major league gambler on all kinds of sports. Got started betting on dog racing if memory serves.

Damn, pretty harsh considering Ohtani was never the one doing the betting plus he got fleeced out of $15mm by an employee/friend. Glad you aren't the commissioner.

I am assuming that you believe Ohtani was so smart that he was able to fool the FBI, State Attorney General and the MLB and hide all of his personal involvement in betting. Plus he can hit and pitch, what a guy.

Lets remember, he claimed he didn't know what his interpreter said to the club house during his speech, it wasn't until afterwards, his people told him that Ippei just indicted him. That's when the fake story came out that Ohtani didn't understand what Ippei was saying. Rob Manfred and the MLB ate it up. Clearly Ohtani knew what was going on. Oh, and 6 months later he understands English, Any other player would have got the lifetime ban

They were best friends, Ohtani 100 percent knew, as he is a gambler, but claims he doesn't gamble on the MLB, That's what he had Ippei for, Honorable man fell on the sword for him. And it worked :unsure:🤣

well technically the lifetime ban is over, Pete is dead. Or is the question, his lifetime or the lifetime of baseball is the punishment?? "lifetime" has many different meanings in the law.

He is on record saying that he doesn't want to be inducted after he is dead, MLB had there chance and blew it.

I don't buy that at all. Was an FBI investigation (of the bookie) as well. It would have come out if Ohtani was a big gambler. Unless these two guys were some sort of criminal money laundering masterminds. Ippei is looking at serious time, he would have flipped on his boy if there was anything there on Ohtani.

I know every employee / dollar in my company. Only 10 of us. Ohtani didn't know what one was doing? Peace

Yes, there is No Way the FBI....would do anything questionable......Unless you are a woman holding a baby in her arms.....

Great analogy. Like comparing apples to...........asteroids. But certainly no big FBI fanboy here.
No, it's a perfect Analogy, the FBI is and has been a cesspool of liars, maniacs and swamp creatures for a LONG time. To expect them to do ANYTHING that brings out the truth is beyond fantasy. They have no more credibility now than the National Enquirer. They do what the handlers tell them, period. People need to understand that anything the FBI says should be doubted FIRST and SECOND, until absolute proof is available. They are like the Methhead cousin that steals your stuff.....they will lie, lie, lie, then lie some more.
