ZZ Top bassist and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Dusty Hill dead at 72

I was shocked to hear that he passed way. Passed in his sleep. Great way to go!  But these guys were still kicking and playing music.

They just started their summer tour a week or so ago. Looking at the schedule it looks like they were playing this weekend . Plus while Billy was doing his solo album this last year, Dusty & Frank were writing the new ZZ Top album. Would be cool if Dusty had laid some tracks down that maybe they could release a song or two as a tribute to Dusty and call it done.

Sad day.  At band practice today we played ZZ Top songs and talked ZZ history.

Last time I saw ZZTop they played with Jeff Beck. La Grange lasted 25 minutes and was probably the best song I have ever seen in a show in my life. And not to brag, but that's sayin' something...

RIP Dusty!

I was lucky enough to see them live a few years ago. One of the best concerts I’ve seen. RIP Dusty

I was able to see them a few years ago in Laughlin and we in the front row! One of the best concerts I ever saw!! RIP Dusty

I don't think Dusty was on the tour. Guess he had hip and shoulder surgery and his rehabilitation was not going well and had to do with his passing.

The greatest musicians of a generation are now in their 70's or older. There will not be another generation like them. There might be better players technically but that generation were the ones who wrote the play book on how to do it and came up with great original songs.  If you get a chance watch the Rick Rubin and Paul Mac special on Hulu.  It is a music version of talking to your grandfather about what he did in WW2. Glad the two of them made the documentary/ interview.  Hope Rick Rubin continues to speak to others from that great generation.

Rock n Roll will never be what is was the last 40 years (70's thru 2000's)

^ ^ ^ This.   Also, I'm not "Mr. Podcast Guy", but there are are few I listen to / watch on the regular.  Rick Rubin's is outstanding . . .

Saw them multiple times. Last was just before Covid hit with Cheap Trick at SDSU Open Air Amphitheater. They were Awesome. Gonna play a lot of ZZ TOP this week at home and watch their Documentary again on Netflix

Such a bummer!

Eliminator was the very first Record I ever bought. Yes, a RECORD...that played on a record player. I'm :ex:

:lmao:  I played the eff out of that thing.

One of my favorite songs from them is Got me under Pressure.

What's yours??

Little tidbit for you guys...

My friend from high school Pete Chapouris IV...his father Pete Chapouris III, (So. Cal Speed Shops) built the ZZ Top Car and also the car from The California Kid.

Pete passed away in 2017. His son Pete IV would always drive to school in some bitchen car! He's now running things I believe for So Cal Speed Shops...Over the years it went away then came back, PC3 Group got started then ended up going back to So Cal Speed Shops...some definite history there.
