Remove General Chat from New Threads?

Especially since the only way to keep the lights on is by view counts and content creation. The chat box drives engagement somewhat, but most miss 90% of what was said there since it goes away.

I have heard that a lot over the last twenty or so years. That might be true if you are selling to google ads etc..

The reality in all the years I have been doing this I have only had one advertiser ask to see the metrics. When I showed them it they didn’t have any idea of what any of it meant. lol.

I don’t sell advertising to the large national and international groups that just measure impressions and ctr.

All the ads I have done on rdp and will be doing here is direct and relevant to the forum.

Basically what I am saying is Grant from funco doesn’t give a shit if 100 people or 10,000 people see a banner with his name on it.. All he would care is if the phone rings and someone says “yes I heard about you on gd.” Or “people were talking about how well your car’s handle on gd”. Etc..

Same as boat builders.. nobody cares about the metrics they care about the sales and direct contacts to have the possibility of sales.

If you guys want it I am happy to setup a P&G section on here and keep it in there.. I personally didn’t think it was that bad in the general chat overall, there’s just been a lot of massive things happening nationally and internationally, which is why there has been an uptake of those threads lately.

What I will say is forums like RDP and even GD typically have the most up-to-date information on what’s going on which isn’t a bad thing.

Here is what I don't understand...

Clearly some of those fucks in the dungeon are Highly Informed about the politics of this country.

HOW the fuck do they have time for that???

I Barely get by, time wise, on my day to day tasks.

I'm thinking those people have no lives of their own??

Seriously...

If you're not going to actually get involved in politics, cast your vote and move on with your life. It's a big beautiful world out there!

As for me, I'm still on every .gov email list that ever existed.
Possibly due to a misspent youth. (Worked for many .org systems and most .gov)
So they send me updates every day. (TL;DR most days)
If I posted everything, I would have to quit drinking.

It would all still end up in chat too. So, there would likely be 2 (or more threads) about the same stuff. Like the Maduro event.

Huh, interesting. Most of our advertisers, from mom/pop companies to Holley, wanted to see the numbers, but that’s because they weren’t easily seen like in a forum. We didn’t sell to Google Ads, it was always motorsports ads. Of course, if they didn’t see leads/sales headed their after they signed, there’d be discussions.

Either way, the people who pay to advertise see a forum with lively constant action on it and want to be a part of it. It’s obvious when a forum is dead, and things like chat boxes take those persistent messages that show an engaged membership and make them disappear unless you watch it.

(Not) Sorry your girls lost.

Doesn't want politics thread. Starts politics thread. :p
Uh ok - has nothing to do with who won. More about wanting this site to be mainly focused on its intent. If I want political spam, I can go to Facebook.

You have posted two threads here on;

-Where to eat in Reno

-Where to stop and see things along the 10 on the way to Texas

Is that focusing on this website's intent?

Or is it absorbing points of view on topics not related to Glamisdunes.com because of the experiences and opinions of others here?

If I wanted "Travel opinions", I'd go to Reddit or some other non Sand related site, right?

Be careful... hypocrisy comes cloaked in perspective, quite often.

There is a bit too much in the way of politics in the GenChat section. I usually enjoy it, but we do have a forum that was meant to receive this to keep the debate club off the front lawn. :ROFLMAO:
