Would it be possible to remove the general chat forum from the new threads view?

I can't be the only one that's super annoyed to come to this site to read about positive / fun / desert related info - to be flooded with political info. Time and a place for that.

Or - can we create a new political forum - and hide that from the new posts view - and ask people to post anything politics related in that section?

Today's example and why it's annoying:

Age old dilemma. Put politics in its own forum or leave it in Gen Chat. Not many will view the politics or comment. The few that do will always have strong opinions. As the site grows and Dave directs, it may change. I view RDP's page often to see what flies and doesn't fly. It's pretty much the wild west and if looking at "whats new" or "gen chat" its everything to see.

I have taken the "Cheffs lounge" off the "whats new" feed. Its accessible by going to that forum. We have a "politically incorrect" forum page that could be used for the politics. It would still show on the "whats new" feed that most members use when logging in.

There has been an uptick of Glamis content and new members posting, it's been nice to see.

Positive Replies (by current members) in those threads created by new folks helps generate future thread posting by those same new folks - my 2 cents.

Politics affects everything we do.

Especially, these days.

"Not liking" to see Political oriented threads is akin to "not liking" threads or replies from certain Members. "Deal with it".

You don't have to click it but stating that it's "Super annoying" (because it's within your view) is kinda the same level as an HOA President not liking what you did to your house. Your opinion is just that... an opinion. 30% of what you showed is Political. 30%.

You may not like it but I assure you there ARE people here that do. In addition to that, people here like to hear what others have to say about topics. So... who's "opinion" has more value? Someone who doesn't like to see information posted, or those that do?

On rdp we have a political forum called “politics and government”. It is also called “the dungeon”. That portion of the site is pretty Wild West.
Even as political as I Am I rarely go in there, they are a little nutty if ya know what I mean. lol

That portion of the site doesn’t show up when you click new posts.. or at least it didn’t for years. Sometimes we will do a site update or the like and it will start again.. I haven’t heard anything about it in awhile so I’m assuming it’s still fine.

I try to keep politics out of “the lounge” which is RDP’s version of general chat, but major news stories like Maduro etc isn’t so much left right as it is world happenings.

Chat rooms on forums.. that never made any kinda sense to me.
Especially since the only way to keep the lights on is by view counts and content creation. The chat box drives engagement somewhat, but most miss 90% of what was said there since it goes away.

Here is what I don't understand...

Clearly some of those fucks in the dungeon are Highly Informed about the politics of this country.

HOW the fuck do they have time for that???

I Barely get by, time wise, on my day to day tasks.

I'm thinking those people have no lives of their own??

Seriously...

If you're not going to actually get involved in politics, cast your vote and move on with your life. It's a big beautiful world out there!
