Registering vehicle out of state (from CA)

Looked into the Montana llc. You hire a legal firm to set up and then do the registration. You have to maintain the llc every year with the law firm and I I felt it wasn't worth the price on my new f350. If I had a new 1/2 mil mh, yes it would be worth it.

I just did this with my TBSS. Family home in Havasu.

Grabbed a copy of electric bill.

Walked into DMV, paid $280 for 5 year registration (was $290 for the year in CA).

Walked out in 10 mins with temporary plate in hand.

Had to shop around for insurance, but landed on State Farm for $500 for year. AAA here in CA was $540 year, but wanted $900 for AZ.

Still have CA DL. If they pull me over, the vehicle is registered to family home in AZ where it spends most of its time, but I have it here in CA temporarily to work on it. I still have a daily driver registered in CA.

Could not have been easier, and now I have an American flag AZ plate with the word "FREEDOM" in big bold font across the bottom.
thats what i did, state farm in phx. hooked me up

My TBSS is with Hagerty.  I needed a "stated value" type of plan with all the money I have in it..

Like said if you register out of state better have a driver license for that state. Chp gets you the fines will be more than you saved.

No you cannot say it stays out of state and you only brought car to ca for repair. They are onto this and will nail you knowing your skipping registration in ca.They will question registration out of state and the ca driver lic  known some who have been caught same deal register at their river house pulled over in ca

off road toys and boats it’s another story.

If it's a diesel your  Commiefornia roving emmisions nazi's will target you for missing/removed emissions equipment if you register your vehicle in Montana.

They can question all they want, but, they have the burden of proof. Unless the CHP has spent the time/effort to investigate me for a few months, they are going to have a hard time selling that to a judge.

I have a legitimate residence in AZ, and this is not a daily use vehicle. There is no law that says I cannot bring an out of state registered vehicle into CA for whatever reason I have.

I know of the potential consequences and headaches that can possibly come from this decision. Those are simply annoyances compared to the out of pocket cost for me to retain the CA registration fees.

You'll most likely win (the first time) in front of a judge, but the headache still exists.

CA will most likely NOT ticket you for an AZ license and CA registration, so it seems the easy button is an AZ license

With Ca. CDL the vehicle your driving with out of state reg. can't be in "your" name. The Montana deal sets you up a LLC and the vehicle is reg to it.

Ah, missed that part.  That works: my guys drive trucks with plates from all over since we do installs everywhere.  They blame the registration on me and cops never seem to sweat it.

You can only be a primary resident of one state whether you have homes in 2 states or just one.

if you claim az you get a lic there file your fed taxes, register to vote, live there 51 percent of time your good. Just owning a house there doesn’t make you a resident.
