Last of my fleet without paperwork is my ATC70.  Black Bart!  Bought 19 years ago from a member here, no paperwork.

What do I need to get together to have the DMV make me whole?  Shortcuts?  Already touched base with AAA and they said I gotta go through DMV.

Go to dmv to start the paper work.

Then you will have to go to CHP, then back to dmv

Its not difficult. You will have to write an affidavit about how and when you acquired the bike. I registered my full suspension 70 without a single receipt! Wrote it out as it was a 5 year project, all parts were bought or traded for used from private party. Mine didn't even have a vin on it.

This is in the files page on the FB 70 parts page. I typed it up years ago could save a trip to the chp.

I wonder if you cant use a registration service?  with my VW buggie I tried to get it done myself & it was a HUGE PITA.  one of the members here (or maybe it was on the Samba), gave me a phone number.  she knocked it out in no time.  I did have to take it to El Cajon to get it inspected & the tag riveted onto it.

The forms Stugots  mention are needed. Over the years I've had good experience with DMV's and I've had the horror stories. About 3 years ago the nice lady at San Marcos said as the ATC VIN information won't be in the system as DMV did a computer file dump and up grade @ 10 years ago, trying to register a "70 US90 and a "84 ATC70, was sent to the CHP have them verify not stolen. Problem is CHP only does inspections by appointment and their always booked for weeks / months.  Good Luck.

Find a local DMV service. Surprisingly inexpensive and no CHP or DMV trip(s). Recently registered my new 2023 enclosed trailer, my '14 Silverado, an out of state OHV, and my son's 2021 Silverado all in one visit. I think it was around $100 fee. They're in Fontana so not close to you but the lady is very understanding and saved me a lot of money in registration and fees.

Vin verification. Most dmv services companies can handle it. The girl in alpine is good, and the girls that used to be by el cajon harley are now on old 80 across from rosaritos by flinn springs. Its worth the 40-50$ they charge to not have to go to middle east dmv

Lisa’s Mobile Registration Service. She’s out of Ramona. 619 571-8333.
That's the one I used.  I did have to go in for an inspection and installation of the CA vin tag.  They did run the serial numbers on the case and trans.

Yea, most of the DMV services place can "verify" an existing vin or serial # but if you need a vin #assigned because of no existing # then its a trip to CHP because they are the only ones to assign them

I've used The Tag Stop in Fletcher Hills for my DMV stuff and have been very happy with them.

Fwiw, my son just used them for registering his car and it went Uber smooth. He had pink slip and transfwr of ownerahip issues, and they knocked it out.  And.....  he got a milk shake at beef and bun afterwards.... what's not to like.  LOL

I could use some advice on this as well.  I bought my son a 2019 KX 100 last Xmas, and like an idiot I bought it from a race family with only the Manufacturer certificate of origin thinking I would just have to the DMV for a vin verification.  I loaded up the bike and took it to DMV, went inside paid my fees etc. and then was told to drive around the back of the building for the vin check.   Vin checked fine but the engine was missing the Motor ID number so they would not complete the paperwork.  I reached out to the guy I bought it from and of course he had gotten from another race family that swapped the case out when they built the motor and factory replacement cases do not have motor ID numbers.  Anyhow I went home angry and have not done anything with it since but want to get it registered prior to desert season.

Has anybody successfully stamped a motor case themselves?  I really don't know what else to do unless I try the CHP and see if they buy the story and somehow will sign the paperwork. If not, I am going to have to try and sell it hoping another race family buys it and doesn't care.

Its got to go to the CHP and have a "blue tag" vin # sticker attached by them. DMV should have told you that. 😏

A blue tag is for something that doesnt have a vin # / He just needs an engine with a number on the case. They wont register a ATV or MC without a motor. You could just register it with the new motor and fill out a statement of facts that says the original motor blew up and this is the replacement. If the motor was rebuilt and the new case doesnt have a # / you could just have it stamped.

On the atc 70s they wont let you do the vin inspection without the motor. I bring the 70 with a motor hanging on by the 2 bolts....nothing else hooked up. One time I bolted the wheels and motor on right there because it was all broke down for powdercoat...The guy let me stage the wheels / motor / bars right in the pu bed.

Sometimes they are very nice.....just have the motor # and Vin # visible

The suspension bikes with no Vin or Cert of orgin have to go to CHP just like the buggies with the receipts so you can get a vin attached and pay your fair share of CA taxes!

Good luck...... @Stugots was 100% correct

:poule:

It has a motor, but no #'s on the case. Replacement cases come with no #'s stamped in them. They put the tag on the motor, your good. Probably not a good idea to stamp #’s that you're going to try and use to register with
