Recovery from Dune trips.

I am not sure what takes the biggest toll on me.

It isn't the prep time or the packing. i am usually 90% loaded up after the last trip and just need to grab a few totes and coolers

It might be the 3 hour plus drive out to the dunes, but I am ready to roll when I get there most weekends so that can't be it.

It could be the grabbing the trailer , leveling and unloading and getting set up . but I doubt it

Could it be the two or three days of minimal sleep maximum adrenaline ? It might be but Saturday night I always get the best night sleep and wake up refreshed.

So it must be the loading up of my car, That is the most stressful activity so far of the weekend and the one that gives me the most anxiety, but I am relaxed and recharged once I change from my UGG's back to my street shoes as I leave storage. So it can't be that.

Driving home is only 3 hours if I am in a hurry so it can't be that but as soon as I get home i am beat tired and usually take a nice long nap as soon as I get home.

So in conclusion, It would seem that the drive home is the most tiring portion of the trip and If I could just eliminate it from the schedule things would be way most gooder

Come Monday morning though after a great weekend in the dunes I am relaxed, rested and mentally recharged. If I go back(Glamis) to soon though the recharge isn't as good. So a minimum 2-week break is required.

the load to unload game wears me out.  It's all worth it though.

I'm always trying to improve the efficiency of our desert program.... but like I tell everyone who's never been... it's a labor of love.  Not really the same as a "vacation"

Lose the towing .. I think I can set up in 15 since they drop it all ready in camp.… leave the paddles on. Etc.

I used to have 6 quads and all the riding gear for that many of us (4 kids).. now we just have 7 SXS helmets and quad riding gear for one adult or teenager.

Used to be the same for me for many many years.  Wife and kids waiting in the house, RV loaded, trailer ready, me in my shop welding on my car before loading it up  Took a few days before the trip just to start packing up chit, then on the last day in Glamis toss everyting in the enclosed and come home.  I put a stop to that chit.  Once we got our pusher in 2015 I wanted to streamline the process.  Buy whatever we needed for the RV.  Load it with extra clothes for myself (impossible for the wife and kids).  Prep my car during the off-season (rarely happens).  Two of the biggest factors to making the Glamis trips easier are storing at Dunes Edge and my son turning 18 two years ago, and working for me full time.  He can go get the RV from storage and get it to Glamis.  My daughter and I stop in Brawley for groceries and show up in camp.  The older the kids get the easier the trips have become.

I put the RV and enclosed at Dunes Edge this past Monday and my daughter was going to shuttle me back/forth in my truck.  She asked why we weren't taking the flatbed with a client's Funco loaded up and instead coming all the way back to Roadrunner to get it.  I told her I didn't want her to 'have to' drive it from Roadrunner to Dunes Edge and through the chit show of people on Gecko Rd pulling out, airing up tires while blocking the road and the huge sand piles on Gecko after Sunday's winds.  But if she wanted to pull the trailer it would get us home an hour earlier.  She said 'I got this man.'  She followed me to the trash bins and then to Dunes Edge with no issues.  Not bad for a 16 year old girl driving my truck and pulling a 22' flatbed with a Funco loaded up.  MIght have to put her on payroll soon.

I guess age isn't just a number. I too get beat on a trip and back. I got rid of the kids playground out back so that when I get home, I can back the Moho and trailer all the way back and call it a day. Unload a different day. I can't believe I used to unload every single toy and item off the trailer, play shuffle with boat, jetskis, truck, 2 cars just to get the Moho back into the side of the house and trailer on driveway in front of it. Why am I still as tired as those years?

I did notice that if I quit drinking the day before coming home, and get some good sleep for the last night in camp, I feel pretty happy on the drive home. Even with crap weather and just about zero visibility, I felt fine.

Towing has long been lost. Not going to pay what they want to drive it across the street ( stow at GDS, Not driving and extra hour each way for DE). As far as ready in 15 minutes that is pretty quick to get everything out set up and ready to ride.

I do leave the paddles on, but I only have 1/2" clearance between wheel wells so backing it in is a little stressful putting it away.

I think my bigger issue is I have had a sinus infection and cant shake the congestion. I feel more rested today but it takes me a few days to get back to normal after some of these trips. I try not to consume as much on the later days of my trips. Been fortunate enough no hangovers the last few trips. :dude:

I store at Dunes Edge and fly in and out of SD because the drive to the bay area is too much and easier to store at Dunes Edge. Plus the price of Diesel back in forth is not worth it vs flying in and out. Dunes edge is worth every penny to me.

its not the time in glamis that gets me its the set up to get there and the clean up when i get home. its only me and my daughter (11) so i do all the loading and unloading, and cleaning when i get home. plus i work alot, so the week before i try to get some stuff done every night. im normally tired by the time i get out there. i have alot of issues with sleep so i dont sleep much in glamis, but lucky for me i dont really drink either that there really saves me.  this new years trip. got home sunday night, unloaded the trailer, but cleaned everything monday, it was so nice having that extra day off work with the holiday. some trips i will only take unload the extra food and clothes. and leave everything thing else in the TH, its stored in my warehouse at work so im not worried about anything getting stolen. the rzr can go a couple trips with out getting washed. but this new years trip it need it after the dew and the little rain.

Only stressed heavily twice on the way home. Made a mistake fueling up in Gila Bend. (Got in a hurry)The island curb extends further than I expected and hit it with the rear tire of the moho. Talk about a SHOCKER and a ROCKER! No damage just lots of curse words my wife isn't used to hearing. Then Wilcox AZ the moho starting losing power.

NO ONE wants to work on Moho's BTW.......After a few hours I diagnosed the problem. Happened to me 18 years a go. FUEL FILTER. The 'OL Saying......"I'll take one more trip then service the rig" proved false. Begged a company to replace the filter. $165.00 later and the Coach ran great the rest of the way. It's not easy driving across the country with 65' of load. And the road is dominated with Big Rigs. You have to negotiate Rest Stops. They fill up fast. Timing is everything. Today, it's mind over matter. Need to get things completely unloaded / washed / put away. Got too many things to do next week. I'm sure I'll fade soon. No time yet. Peace

You get to do this at your new home?

"BAD SUBJECT." Not yet. Trailer is over there. Moho is unloading at the house we live in now. Then I'll switch em. When I'm done they'll both be over at the new house I should call STORAGE HOUSE. HA! Peace
