Ram or Ford….. looking for pros and cons

The disaster prevention kit is only like $450 but you gotta put it on B4 the pump fails. Ordered my kit like 2.5 years ago and haven't installed it yet. It's on my to do list

A little off topic, well, maybe more than a little.

We were walking the streets of Cork Ireland and Portsmouth England last week and never expected to see so many Ford Raptors.
Right hand drive.
Super popular over there.

No personal pix, iPhone puked but some Googles images:

If you want a new 3/4 ton and are not towing that much get a gasser. The Ford with the Godzilla V8 will tow just fine and you don't have to deal with all the new diesel stuff.

Right?

You'll get to deal with all the crazy gas emissions stuff instead!

Like adding a anti theft system, to your catalytic converter...

👍🏼😁

I can recommend the 7.3 gas super duty, been pretty satisfied with mine towing 13k even on mountain roads it gets the job done just fine. She is thirsty though, especially towing!

I was a GM tech for 3 decades and have always owned GM cars and trucks, there was nothing else we ever even looked at. I worked on so many Duramaxes I just couldn't bring myself to own one too so I said fuck it I'm going to buy something out of my realm, I bought a new F-250 instead and I love it. 5 years later and my truck is now out of warranty and I'm not scared of it. It's got 38k on the odometer now and I figured at 80k or so, which may be a long time from now, I will replace the injection pump with an upgraded aftermarket solution.

I bought an XLT rather than a Lariat because I didn't want all of the driver assistance bullshit that is being shoved down consumer's throats nowadays. That big round thing in front of me is the steering wheel and the big pedal in the center is the brake so I'll decide how and when to use them. I did miss out on the Bang and Olafson stereo (I'm embarassed to say the word "infotainment") but I've still got the 8"screen (seriously how fucking big does one need the radio screen to be?) and it sounds good. I also missed out on leather but truth be told the cloth has suited my needs so far.

And one more thing I'll add about late model GM gas truck engines coming from a soldier that has been down in the trenches, I'd be just as apprehensive about cam and lifter and high pressure injector failure on a gas engine as some of you are about diesels. There's a reason the GM powertrain warranty is no longer 5/100, they know their gas engines won't go that long before the rollers on the lifters eat the cam. Just sayin. :)

Ford's engines may do the same or worse, I don't work for either anymore. It is what it is they are all more or less throw away vehcles anymore, the manufacturers don't engineer them to last that long, it's planned obsolescence and their way of forcing consumers to have to buy another in the future.

This is Exactly why I got rid of my gas truck. Towing to St Anthony's was a complete act of frustration.

I can't even imagine doing it, at today's fuel prices.

😕

HD gas emissions and CAFE stuff is a lot less stringent than diesel or 1/2 ton.

And yeah, cat theft is a problem, but waning since it’s almost impossible to legitimately recycle cats these days. I tried, no one will touch them.

Yeah, but you're not a criminal! Clearly they are smarter than us.

There is no way would I would buy a Gm product with there on going paint issues. Beautiful truck but it will start pealing in 5 to 6 years. Fords Still. using the CP4 fuel pump which Ram and GM dumped cause of so many issues. Im a cummins fan so I have a Ram. No issues. If your looking into jumping into a ram 3/4 ton truck i would wait till the 25's come out.

Is there going to be big changes for 25? I haven’t really looked into them much yet…. Lots of good info though fellas, thanks so much! I do really love my Ford but I just have a vehicle problem where I get bored after 4 or 5 years…. It’s wearing on the wife 🫣

Thanks for all the info fellas…. I know most said keep the F250 buuuut, I was able to sell her for $9k over what I paid for it in 2020. And I was able to get a new ram 2500 for $19k off MSRP! Had to fly to Az to get a deal like that but it was a great experience. Love the truck “so far 😅” hopefully I can convince myself to keep this one for the long haul!

I've had 3 F250s ('01, '06, '11), a '16 Ram 2500, a '24 GMC 3500 SRW, and now a '24 GMC 3500 DRW. Our MegaCab Ram had an excellent ride (for a truck) and a nice interior (Laramie). The only complaint I had about the truck is the shit leg room in the passenger front seat. This still hasn't been changed by Ram and it sucks for anyone sitting over there but other than that, the truck ran great. I really liked the exterior styling and it was trouble free. It was a 6.4l Hemi though and I had bought another 5th wheel so it was time to move in to a diesel. Their trailering tech is also 2 decades behind everyone else (killer exhaust brake however).

I don't care for how the Ford's look now (ugly ass front end that just seems to keep getting worse) so it got eliminated right away. For 2024, GM finally updated their 1990 Firebird interior/dash to something really nice looking. I cant stand the front end of the Chevy but I thought the GMC looked pretty nice (especially in the AT4 and Denali Ultimate trim). The L5Ps didn't have the CP4 fuel pump and it's a stout power plant. I know a lot of people shy away from the 10 speed trans but I absolutely love it and would never go back to a 6 speed. It is always in the power band, stays very cool (I towed a 16,500 5er across the country this summer including over the continental divide at 9600'), and it shifts nice. The exhaust brake gets ragged on but in all the mountains I traveled through, it performed well in real world applications.

With all that rambling said, I liked each and every one of those trucks because they met my expectations over the years. I had no significant reliability issues with any of them (even the dreaded 6.0 PSD...).
