Plumbers! Whats on my water heater?

Recirculating pump only helps keep the hot waiter piping hot all the time by moving the water in the bottom of the tank and out the top to the main piping. This helps have hot water faster, without it you wait for a few seconds for the how water piping to drain out all the water sitting in it and get the warm water from the tank to the fixture.

This pump does not help temperature at all.

The dial on the water heater only turns up or down the flow of gas into the burner which raises the temperature to psycho level hot water. I too hate hot scalding water and my wife is definitely a psycho hot water snob too.

Meh, instahots require 240v power or dedicated gas lines and venting. Your gas bill went down but if you used AC powered instahots your electric bill went up.
 
Switch to tankless endless hot water. I installed an industrial Renai outdoor unit in my house i have it set to 125* (digital control unit in my laundry room) it can go higher than that, but i wouldnt recommend it. Its my wifes favorite upgrade. She loves to boil in the shower too
 
We love our tankless, endless hot.
But placement is important, our kitchen takes a good 20 secs to get the hot to the faucet.

Shower is less then 5 secs.

Or it seems, maybe time to get a stop watch and find out.

They make the 110 units for bathrooms etc...if you have a long run it makes sense....saves water as well.


It would make sense in larger homes.
 
We have a circulation pump in our house. Instant hot water is super nice. With the pump off it can take 2 or so minutes for hot water to reach the kitchen sink. 2-3 seconds with it running.
 
i have had about 20 units of the gas fired eternal hot water tanks for over 6 years. only one inducer motor failure. all the others have been very reliable. Here they are mounted in the side wall outfacing built into the brick work. on a really really deep freeze we had a couple issues depending on what direction that wall faces, then you have to just wait for it to thaw lol. but i have regular tanks mounted in attics on same place and they usually freeze up the hot line first going down into the house.

My home layout is a central wet wall for kitchen laundry lower and upper showers. You can get a recirculation setup to fix that 20 seconds.
The house i grew up in sometimes required a 3 minute wait for hot water as my shower was on the opposite side of the house from the water heater. And the house was built by a plumber 🙄
