One of the lines of equipment the company I work for runs on Danfoss PLC. I typically plug into it with a serial/USB gateway. CG-150-2. Something I've been asked to try and figure out is to connect to the machine via wi-fi. Such that if the gateway were plugged into the PLC, and the truck was near a wi-fi source, I would be able to log into it remotely. With some kind of router I'm assuming...

Anyone have experience with something like this?

To quote the Great Samuel Jackson... "English MF'er do you speak it"?

Maybe something like the CG-150-2 connected to a Windows thin client on the truck that can connect to a wifi network when near (assuming there is 110 on the truck)? You could the connect to the thin client over the network (RDP/VNC) when it has joined the wifi you mentioned. If that serial gateway has linux drivers then you could probably use a raspberry pi.

The gateway runs on windows drivers as far as I know. Not all the truck platforms we build on have 110v. Only the Ford. None of the class 8 stuff.

Gotcha. Would adding a small inverter be a possibility? Power consumption on TCs like this are pretty low (65 watts in the case of the one linked)

you just need a serial to ethernet adapter

How does that get me wi-fi capabilities on the truck?

yeah you'd still need a wifi router to attach to the sites wifi, they may have one I didn't invest that much time looking

we used to use these devices for PGE, solar, plc and other systems to get remote access, but they had local networks to plug into

yep they make an all in one

It would need to be USB to wi-fi. The serial part is the end of the gateway that connects to the ECUs/panel.

Thanks for the help...
