Does anyone have experience with getting their kids into Nursing School?

My daughter, graduated with a degree in Health Science from Long Beach State has been trying to get into a few Nursing Schools for the last year. Due to money, she is trying to get into CSU San Marcos, Paloma, RCC, the closest to us for commuting. Crazy, college graduate with a 3.8 GPA can't get into a Community College Nursing program, mind boggles me.

The next option is the Private colleges/programs. The cost is crazy, at least $100k. She has no debt, she is white, Parents are financially sound, so no options for grants or any free money.

Am I missing other options? I don't want to see her dream vanish. But at this point, I am ready to spend the money, but rather not.

CBU in Riverside has a nursing program. But it is private… so $$$

Getting into the community colleges is hard due to everyone trying to get into them. They are a fraction of the cost.

My daughter is attending Citrus JC for this, but not in the RN program yet...doin all her GE stuff while applying each year.

It's very hard to get into a school vs paying the private route.

My grandaughter just graduated from Hawaii Pacific in Honolulu....she had an aunt to stay with, but that's a good school. The CA hospitals really want CA grads....but luckily she has connections and got a job. There are a lot of people going into the field... I mean $60+hr to start aint bad.

Nursing has really taken off. And as with anything..."education" has seen the potential money grab. You used to be able to get a nursing degree at a community college and be good. Then in the world of one uppers...now you need a 4 year degree. Then you need a BSN, then you need a Masters...

Of course all this has trickled into the pay scale and opportunities available.

Pretty soon, they will convince all the nurses that they need to be a Nurse Practitioner or Physicians assistant.

I would say the safe bet is a BSN. The school doesn't really matter has the letters on the degree "BSN".

As far as the cost of education, I feel if you can't pay off your education in 5 years, the cost benefit is not there.

my son's girlfriend is in the same boat, she was told they are so strapped for room, she couldn't get in, so she moved back to tulsa okla and was accepted to tulsa community college after she was turned down at TU, UCO and one other. she said the school told her they have over double the applications as they do room in classes.

my buddy has 3 kids and a wife that all went to okla city community college nursing program over the years and they all had no issues finding jobs, hired on before they even graduated.

In 2018/19 my ex-wife blew $100k student loan on some bull shit accelerated nursing program and flunked out in the first year. Still never got her degree. Great career choice for an addict.

My daughter goes to Glendale City College full time (not nursing) and it's 100% free, which surprised me. I'm a low paid civil service worker so maybe that helped. I guess she knows what grants and shit sign up for.

You sir are privileged. Nothing will come easy and you should know this by now as your daughter has already started the process. Sucks to say but im in the same boat with mine. The schools have handed out free money to so many kids that every thing is tough to get into on a public level.

Kids that want to get into school will find their way and make it happen.

My daughter got into John Hopkins university by looking up scholarship, grants etc. well she applied for many but the John Hopkins was a full ride. Sucks she’s on east coast but it’s great for school.

This. ^^^

My daughter recently graduated from USC. Paid for everything herself and got her own grants.

She will be applying All over trying to get into a PA program real soon.

Ive payed for her cars, insurance, some of her rent and food, but she did the rest all on her own.

It all boils down to,how bad do you want something?

Life's lessons. GetErDone. 👍🏼

She knew we can’t afford a top school so she looked up everything had some good ones with good discounts etc this one was full ride.

She’s also a above 4.0 grade too. Just sucks she’s opposite side of country. One of her friends got into MIT full ride. I know mine spent many hours applying and also got rejections but she kept going.

That's what it takes!

Good job dad. 👍🏼

My daughter did the same. Put herself through school and graduated Magna Cum Laude from UCLA. She came back as woke and liberal as they come. Has no desire to use that degree for financial gain. In fact she wants to go back to school to get her Masters. I just don't get it. Anyway good luck to your daughter and getting into nursing school.

Crazy thing she ain’t going for nursing she’s going for civil engineering. But whatever she chooses it’s her and that’s what she wants to do.

So far she’s loving it being at school but we miss her. She can be a little Tom boy she prefers a bike over a quad and likes to ride a 550 jet ski. Best words 4 years ago dad can you teach me how to ride your jet ski. My response was lil Princess I’ll buy you one.

She got a clean 94 550 reed. I only got a 90 piston port. 🙈😂but she says we’re going to glamis New Years.

Oncology Nurses at USC earn serious bank.
UCLA Nurses have a 20 years to retirement.
Keep applying.

Brother is a nurse practitioner and went to a small private university. He makes BANK!

He’s worked at community hospitals, Scripps La Jolla, and a few other places. It’s a great career that can take you anywhere you want to go.

No need to spend big money on a big name university for nursing. Not saying you shouldn’t try but it’s not a requirement to make money in nursing.
