We have these ugly ass lights in the kitchen and entry and I decided to swap them out for the "Plug-N-Play" Super Duper Easy LED Recessed light Kit!
HA!!!!!
Did a quick measurement...looks to be about 5" kit is what I need...so I get the 5"-6" lights.
Mu'Fu'K'N Son of Gun...they dont' Mu'Fu'K'N fit!
Nothing is that Easy...Turns out these cans were probably put in around 1990 and are 4.75" Dia!
4 trips to Home Depot and the disgruntled employee who probably had his own electrical business, but now works at Home Depot due to his Stellar Attitude, is attempting to help me!
"I don't know man, I'm not on the job site and I didn't make the lights, so what am supposed to do. I can't help ya!
Thanks a bunch ya dill hole!!!!

So, after a couple tries and returns I find some lights that I think will work.......hold breath!
NOPE!!!!
But, they are adjustable and still not the right size.
After looking at them I had a thought. The spring tensioner thingy just needs to bend in past the edge of the can! But it won't go further cause it is hitting the light housing!
Hmmmm....If that could move up a little it would miss the taper on the light housing!
Head to the garage and found a small nut that acts as a donut/spacer and will allow the bracket to move up just enough!
Holy moly it worked!

Old lights and pics of what I'm talking about, then the new ones!
Ceiling isn't perfectly flat, so they don't sit exactly flush...circa 1962 ranch, but hey they look a lot better and put off a better light!

Don't be so upset, I know you can open up your own shop and your true calling, HOMO Depot. I was surprised to see you actually out and not hanging at the Blue Oyster Club with yore types!
Better stick with what you know...battery operated thingys though! Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

Trying to figure out which forum this topic belong in? :ROFLMAO:

Good job DBart!!!

I bought into the recessed led lighting in my home. Its been 2.5 years since they went in. Have a few dozen in the home. I am having to change out one at a time close to every month as they start blinking and going bad. I expected a longer service life out of these. Not like they are on 24/7........

I'm not saying it's a plot,
but it's a plot.

Light bulbs have historically been limited in lifespan due to the Phoebus Cartel, a 1920s agreement among major manufacturers (like GE, Philips, Osram) to deliberately shorten incandescent bulb life to about 1,000 hours from 2,500+ hours to boost sales through planned obsolescence, ensuring customers bought replacements more often. While longer-lasting bulbs technically exist, the 1,000-hour mark became a standard for balancing brightness, efficiency, and profitability, a model that influenced product design for decades.

The new ones look great, the older ones could keep a KFC Chicken warm...

We did same awhile back, retrofitting always sucks. Almost easier to patch the drywall and cut new holes...LOL
