I guess I gotta give the Rustang a fare shake....  there were a few folks who expressed some strong opinions about the new mustangs that kind of turned me off to them....  ive owned 2.5 fords in my life the last one (merciry grand marquis) was pretty awesome.   No turbo 4 cyls or 6 cyls, I'm looking for a V8 car.

So, What are the goods and bads about the mustang???

Can you get a 500-ish HP motor without the blower?

Can you get that in an auto???

Are they reliable???

Will I get 200k out of them??

500hp is basically stock. Most dyno around 430 at the wheels so long as it’s not a 2022-23 model (emissions changes neutered them).

10spd is quicker by a decent margin, but MT is always my choice.

Performance Package is a must. PP1 gets you 275s, torsen diff, much better tuned suspension, and shorter gears (necessary given the long gearing on the MT82 and high rev nature of the 4-cammer).

PP2 gets you full GT350 suspension and 305s all around

Mach 1 is either 275s or 305s (depending on package) and the Tremec 6 speed (much better shift feel).

24s get you a giant TV screen and back to 2018-2021 horsepower, but holy chit are they expensive.

Mode wise: intake, header (not CARB legal), exhaust and tune get you in the 500whp range. E85 tune (also not CARB, but easy to revert) is 40whp alone. Ford racing 91 tune (yes, they’re tuned for 87 stock for some reason) and intake is 20whp, and smog legal.

And smog legal blower kit for $8k is 650whp ish.

Are you looking "car" only?

If I were looking for a new ride, it would be a mid trim Silverado/Sierra.  Standard cab, short box, 6.2.  Throw a blower on it and proceed to steal kids lunch money with it.

Oh, and take the wife to the plant shop so she can bring home more victims...

Your end goal will dictate which year you should get when it comes to the "new" Mustangs. Can't tune the '24 S650 cars outside of what Whipple offers because they have access to Ed Badillo, so no you won't hit 500HP. The A10 cars are the way to go, the trans is a cheat code for sure, but they can be finicky at times. S650 has a nicer interior, same suspension across the board from S550 to S650 so not really gaining anything there. All the stock motors will make 1K so that's not going to be an issue if you want to live in the 500HP range, keep good oil in it and you won't have any issues. I don't know that I'd expect 200K miles out of one though.

They are fun cars, I have a 2018 TT S550 and it's a hoot to drive. Coyotes and boost are the chef's kiss and I'm not a Ford guy in the slightest.

If anyone wants my opinion (no one rarely does), it's 2024 and domestic V8 cars are dated and will go away soon enough. There's nothing offered currently that even gets my attention. At every stoplight theres some 20 something with a mustang, camaro or challenger revving their engine and waiting for the light to turn green. I've seen enough, had enough and don't want or need one. Heck, we've got a torch red C7 in the garage that we bought new, that we haven't driven in perhaps several months, I hope the battery is not dead.

I've had the unfortunate task of returning a hopped-up 2016 GT350 back to stock at the dealer I work at, so that we could get it to pass emissions and sell it on the used car lot (emission? yes this is phoenix and we have strict emissions). Anyways it was a pain in the pecker to remove the headers, obnixious exhaust, intake ducting and crap, oil seperators, and then put the oem tune back into it, then I had to drive it for what seemed like hundreds of miles to get the I/Ms to show as ready so it would pass emissions. It wasn't like this particular car was a thrill of anything, it was just a car. I was not impressed. A 6cyl KIA stinger would have given it a run for it's money.

Fwiw, my spouse drives a 2024 Hyundai Tucson Limited, it's bad ass and comfortable. I'd much rather drive it when we go somewhere than even the C7, much less a mustang. Comfort has taken the priority over being macho in my older years.

Carry on.

Kia is low 13s at 107mph. Mustang GT is upper 11s at 121mph. Unless they’re racing in the rain, not gonna be close.

Kia is cool though.

Those body lines on that Saleen are starting to morph into the Camaro IMO. Especially the quarter panels.
