My newest tool

I just got one of those ultra quiet Fortress air compressors from Harbor Freight as a birthday gift. I plan to install it in the cabinet of my enclosed trailer. I’m shocked at how quiet the thing really is. It’s pretty amazing. I’m not usually a HF guy other than select items but I’m pretty impressed with this thing.

Had Milwaukee tools from around 2006-2009.  Recently gave them to my BIL and I bought all new Dewalt 20V brushless tools.  I typically go with the highest model within a group- it pays off in the long run.

Picked up a hammer drill, impact, HD impact, skill, grinder, sawzall, jig, 12" chainsaw and framing gun.  So far, I'm very impressed.  I spent almost entire day using the chainsaw around the property and still had a ⅓ of the battery left.  VERY impressed.

This is one of my favorite tools. Power grease gun. I use about 4 tubes of grease a month   Makes greasing a tractor a breeze

Figured I’d jump in here with a question kind of in the subject. Retiring for the second time here on the 31st. My yard tools here in the Mojave consist of a hulahoe, a garden rake, and a 48 inch landscaping rake. Moving up to Visalia and the wife is going to have to let Jorge, Jesus, and Jaime go. Not paying someone to do what I can do for free.

So here’s what I need from you experienced masses here on GD.com: I would like to find a set of battery operated tools that consist of a lawnmower, a weed eater that doubles as an edger, a hedge trimmer, and a pole saw. Is there any such a “kit”? Is there anything I’m leaving out or overlooking when it comes to lawn/yard care?

Haven’t owned a lawnmower since I moved off base and sold my 19 year old Craftsman gas mower back in 2001. Seems technology has changed, and not even sure you can buy a gas mower in California anymore.

I don’t mind going electric with my move but I would like a set of tools that all use the same battery. Thanks fella’s.

EGO may fit that description.

While not offered in a kit, you can buy each item individually from makita using their 18V line. I have owned a dual line brushless string trimmer and a hedge trimmer (They sell a hedge trimmer/string trimmer set that swaps out the head, probably has an edger head available also) and both have been great tools with 5 amp hour batteries. I wouldn't even consider cordless electric if you will have a big property since you will be swapping batteries often but for a typical tract yard, they work great.

It’s only a quarter acre. I should be able to keep a handle on it. Going to have to get schooled up on irrigation and citrus trees. Her house has Navel oranges, Valencia oranges, and lemons. Several different types of palms and shrubs.

Just don’t want to keep paying a crew, and it’ll occupy some of my retired time.

Speaking of irrigation and citrus trees, I don't know how your property is laid out or what's already there, but I worked with a guy who had a very nice orchard at his house and he explained to me that the leach field from his septic system is what did most of the watering. The citrus fruit and avocados he gave me were incredibly juicy with tons of flavor and he said they were also fertilized by the same waste water. I thought it was a pretty slick setup!

It’s all city sewer, water, etc. All of the utilities are underground. Makes the neighborhood very eye appealing. The fruit from the trees is very good. Going to be a huge change moving from single digit humidity up to someplace that always has dense fog advisories and heavy dew every morning.

I just bought an EGO 650 cmf leaf blower for my Havasu house to move land ape rock ooff the street.  Crazy expensive but BLOWS the others away ..pun intended

Yeah, no one comes close.  I have the EGO blower, hedge trimmer and weedwacker.  Bought these about 3-4 years ago while I still lived in SoCal.  I would use them almost on a weekly basis and they're still going strong.

Just picked this up tonight after wanting one for a year or so but never doing it because i already have 2 bandsaws and 2 portabands. Im doing alot of alumn  sheet work for a local race team that includes cutting out intricate cuts in .250 6061 sheet. This thing rips! Love it instantly!

Been eyeballing one of these for a while. Better than a bubbler I take it?

3 acres here, same trimmer. I find 3 5Ah batteries last longer than I’m willing to work if I put them back on the charger when spent. Used the leaf blower and trimmer to cut the brush 10’ on either side on my property and the neighbor’s (800-1000’ total) and it lasted most of the job shuttling back to charge. Just use the preset speed limiters to keep consumption down, no need to go full blast the whole time.

@aceisback: definitely Makita line. I have EGO stuff and it’s good, but holy balls are replacement batteries expensive. Their battery management isn’t the best either as I’ve lost a couple and replacements aren’t cheap. Replaced the mower with a 36v Makita (just 2 18v standard Makita batteries) and it’s just as good and at least I have other uses for the batteries so it hurts less.
