More toyhauler questions for a noob

Bansh, if you end up going 5th wheel and need a hitch let me know. I still have ours (standard mount) from when we pulled our 33ft 5th wheel with our 02 2500HD. She doesn't look new but still works and is at the right price, free to you. Let me know if you are interested and when you want to pick it up. I would just need to get the rails out of the truck.

Pro Eagle 15k hitch

With the 5th wheel being much taller over time, my favorite upgrade is a Electric Awning,  not bad priced and pretty easy to install,

Super thanks!  But this new puck system seems cool and if I go 5th wheel, we'll get one of those.

I've seen a few rigs that have converted to goose neck.  My truck also a goose ball hole.  Technically, I just drop the ball in and and I'm good?  But someone here posted before that's setup isn't AS strong.

Yeah that puck set up is pretty sweet.

No worries. If something changes you atleast have a back up.

@Stugots hasa nice rig for sale at a great price, and it's had all the fixes done so it's ready to rip. it has Becca's wants too with a big front bedroom and separate bathroom.

Edit: Sorry, his may be a little too long and it's 3 axles

There is a manual sliding and an automatic sliding. I've always had the manual, but never needed it. Friend had the Automatic and while convenient when towing it is bigger and takes up a lot of bed space. It's not coming out without a cherry picker. What is access like wherever you are going to store it?

The Wife is right on the front sleeper. All 5th wheels have that. If you go pull trailer be sure the front sleeper is a walk around bed, otherwise one of you is climbing over the other to use the bathroom at night.

Let me know if you want to look at mine and take some actual measurements instead of going off what the brochures and interwebs say.
Luckily, there's one built in to the trailer. I just left it hitched on the last trip of the season, worked fine.

Reinstalling, however.  Yeah, definitely just use the trailer to get it close enough to install by hand...

Make a run to Vegas..

Some pics are wrong model, could be the guy is a numbnut or a Nigerian Prince.....worth a call :drunkdial:

Examples cause the Ad pics suck.

That is the same exact trailer I have and I really like it, Have never had any issues with it ,That model is a 3105 .Tows like a dream. If you are in San Diego you are welcome to come by and check it out. That is a heck of a good price.

I have a similar truck set up I have a 2021 Chevy Silverado 2500 4x4 short bed and a Genesis 37crxl I did go with a slider hitch but have yet to use it and I can get my trailer damn near 90° with out the slider.  I just upgraded from a bumper pull front bath and should have done it years ago.

@Bansh88 also I did not go with air bags I went with sumo springs they work pretty good while I am loaded. But I feel my truck squats quite a bit when there is no toys in the trailer. So if you camp with out toys I would do air bags. And my tires are F rated 35” toyos and I love them.

Maybe others can chime in on this but having pulled 5th wheels with both a tandem and triple axle I think the triple axle is way more stable.  I’m also not a fan of the new trend with only 2 axles under a 35’+ trailer.

i had an 03 WW 36' triple with 15" wheels and it towed great, i agree on the 3rd axle adds sway stability.  I then bought a 44' 16" wheel with 14 ply toyhauler with tandem axles, whew that trailer was long and a bitch to fit in the woods camping.  We sold it after a year and downsized to a 36' tandem axle and now pull double trailers.

the 3rd axles does help alot but i could only imagine the scrub on the expensive 14ply tires that come on the newer trailers. And for the lack of triple axles in newer trailer i just dont understand why they dont do it.

I almost bought Stugots trailer. It's good to go. Peace

I have basically the same truck- 2021 2500HD Duramax. I haul a 39' Genesis 5th wheel Toyhauler that loaded is about 16k (hauls great, even in the mountains) I run air bags based on the heavy 3k+ kingpin weight, but I don't belive you will need them with the older Weekend Warriors if you go that route to save $$$. (If your trailer squats the back, then buy bags).

As far as cab to trailer turning clearance, the Anderson and Pullright style hitches can offset the trailer king pin forward for additional clearance (I run the Pullrite), and they are very light/easy to remove from bed. They have a style  available that essentially clamps right to a Gooseball (sold separately, i use a Curt) since you already have that truck option. That's a nice fast and effective setup for your truck.

If possible, go 5500 Onan generator on a trailer as it is quieter/smoother, and obviously more powerful.

Solar, if not already installed is one of the best adds you can do. Batteries always fresh and last MUCH longer.

2 Full size Quads won't fit side by side, so look for plenty of cargo area.

I have had owned 5 different Toyhaulers (2 5th wheels/3 bumper pulls), and 5th wheel in my opinion is the only way to go.

Happy trailer hunting...

AZ_Limo that looks my old car. I loved that car!

4 full side quads at 4ft wide and you need min 16 ft to the first cabinet. If you add in 70s you need a big kitchen. If you go pull trailer you have the bed to help.

I have a 2006 LBZ CCSB Duramax that I would tow my 2006 Attitude 33AKS 5th wheel with. I added air bags, deleted the truck and installed PPEI EFI Live Tunes. Truck pulls it very well loaded. The tuning helped with braking as the tow tune would use my turbo and trans to help slow the rig down without killing my brakes. Trailer is around 11k dry and loaded around 15-16k.Your truck is very capable to tow a mid-size 5th wheel or tow behind similar to what I have. Air bags would be my only recommendation for your truck as the L5P duramax has more than enough power for what you are looking to tow in a stock format. The trans is also a huge plus being a 10-speed.

Based on what others have said and the math, your will need 16ft for cargo area. To get around that, I added a rack on the back of by 5th wheel that could hold (2) 450 quads. Something to consider if you are sticking with the size you mentioned. I have a slider hitch that I would only use if I was transporting a 55gal water jug from storage to camp for a week long glamis trip. Otherwise I would never use the slider. Even in tight situations.

My 5th wheel is currently up for grabs and sounds like it might be in your price range. Its at little longer at 35ft and has 3 axles. Manual slider hitch and quad rack are included with it. DM me if you are interested.

Bansh, you seem like a guy that doesn’t mind a little work to save a few bucks. Most quads are 4’ wide. You can fit 4 quads in 8’ feet of trailer by standing them up back to back. Although this isn’t ideal for most people, it can be done. Just a suggestion for fitting 20lbs of crap in a 10lb box!
