Lets talk 1/2 ton trucks

Gonna be really hard to beat the amazing ride quality of the Raptor that you've gotten used to. They all make nice trucks but the Raptor is just a different beast that no one can match. Except maybe the TRX with that bonkers power. And I'm a Chevy guy, lol
I have a friend that sold his Raptor and got the TRX, his thoughts:

  • Power, no comparison, the TRX is fast
  • Comfort pretty close
  • Mileage is shiat on the TRX

I asked if they were sitting side by side and he had to choose, he said he couldn't pick one over the other, both trucks were 2020 or newer as well.

Back in January I finally let go of my 01 F250 7.3, that was hard to do, to say the least. I picked up a '22 F150, 4 door 4x4, 2.7 ecoboost, so far I have to say I love this truck.  Power is well beyond what I expected, and fuel economy is fantastic, for a truck. The ride is great, and I feel like it's the quietest truck I've ever been in. I didn't get a fancy top shelf model, but feel I have everything I need and then some. Overall I'm more then happy, and when I walk out to it, I feel like it's the best looking truck in the parking lot.
Yeah, forgot to mention just how dead silent it is.  Towing back from a day trip to Glamis, I was think WTF since it felt like the truck/trailer were moving around a little (just towing my buggy on a flatbed).  Saw the high wind warning sign, looked down at the grass laying flat on the road, and realized I was driving in a 45+mph headwind at 75mph.  Heard absolutely nothing in the truck to indicate wind, barely felt it with power, and only the occasional wiggle from the trailer.

was the trx black?

I saw that happen in costa mesa a while back

guy looked almost as happy as the salesman who made the deal!

I'm bias.  I had them all,   Call me if you want my opinion.

I saw the TRX once, I actually don't remember the color.  They guys changes rides every 6 months so I don't pay much attention anymore.

Re: Toyota. I would pass on a new 2022 Tundra. It's an entirely new truck and has some bugs to work out. There has already been a turbo issue that while easily resolvable, has no parts in the pipeline to repair. I expect a few more small issues to crop up as miles accrue. Now a 2021 or earlier Tundra would make a great truck if you need it to do truck stuff. As mentioned, it isn't the best at anything aside from maybe resale and reliability. Mileage is horrible, the engine is great as is the transmission. Rides like a truck. I wish they had factory lockers but the 2022 is the first Tundra to get an E-locker. It sounds like you need to be patient for a raptor.

If I bought a new 1/2ton it would be a Tundra or F150.

The new Tundras look bad as with 35’s and leveling kit.

Oh yeah, another F-150 gripe: the HVAC controls require you to push a button that brings up a screen menu, then you select defrost or face or feet.  There's a max defrost button, but it cranks the AC, heat and fan to the max.  If you turn it down, it cancels the defrost.

But, that's a complaint for most new vehicles.  RIP buttons.

Only if you have the fancy model, I still have buttons

I’m still driving a 01 Silverado 1500 with 266K miles on it. I keep it by choice and still like my old basic truck.

I think about a new truck all the time. But will a new 1/2 ton get 250+K miles on original power and drive train?

Then I see the prices and that discourages me from going to look. Plus if I test drive a new truck, it’s going to be hard getting back in my 01 Silverado!

That's what happened to me. I drove my 98 k2500 with a 454 for 22 years and test drove a 2020 C1500, I wanted to see what it was like to actually get some fuel mileage. :j240z:

2010 F150 platinum 4x4 with the 5.4 V8 all stock suspension and wheels. Drives like a dream and tows really well however a 20" enclosed back and forth between havasu and OC about 6K lbs is the most I have towed.

Paid $18,500 in sept 2020 with 68,000 ( prob worth 22K now ) miles I like truck new was like $65K

I  hear you. I'm driving my 2001 F-250 7.3l until I find a new truck. Man, I remember when I bought that truck and it was the coolest truck ever! Now it is like driving a school bus.

I have a 2018 F150 Lariat with just a hair under 90,000 miles.   It has every option they offered other than a sunroof.  For me to replace my truck with a new one would be $70K.   I have not had any issues with this truck.  Although there is some service advisory to replace the cam phaser due to a rattle at startup.

I would consider getting the hybrid version of the F150 or the Tundra.

I think you will be disappointed driving other 1/2 tons when compared to the Raptor.
