Just an idea if you dune alone sometimes...

Great Idea, i have Coral Draw if someone need the artwork I can draw up a template, and then can use a company like vista print,

I have 41 years dunning in glamis

Never used or had a gps

Never had or used a radio

I have never owned a lighted whip, nor have I owned a machine with more than one whip

I learned the sand on a 2-wheeler, did some stick time on 3-wheels and quads, now I'm in a ghazyer mostly, someday I suppose I will up grade to a buggy

And I spend 150 days or more during the season

I dune alone all the time, day and night. ( I also dune with others and in groups occasionally)


I have rescued, saved, towed out, rendered first aid literally dozens a time every season, day and night. Many times I was solo when I rolled up on a scene.
Perhaps this side of me has the karma stacked in my favor, or not, only God knows. One thing I will admit, I do carry the full MacGyver kit, and the kitchen sink. I even carry hand held flares, pop-up flares, orange smoke, signal mirror, air distress panel.... just to name a few items I have on hand. But when your number is up, your number is up, period. Even if I'm with 20 people or solo, in the dunes or sitting on the crapper at home.



Is it the safest rid'en solo, probably not.

But it sure is liberating!
 
In the past my spouse and I have made trips by ourselves with the buggy, sometimes we just had no one else to meet up with so we loaded up and went to the dunes. When we're by ourselves we try to keep it toned down a notch or two, we've never had an issue that we couldn't get out of.

I think radios are critical when your group drives fast. When you dune without radios, how do you ever know if the last guy hasn't cartwheeled and is on his lid? I know I'm not paying too much attention what's behind me, I take for granted all is good until someone gets on the radio. When we used to ride quads, our group's rule was you are always responsible for the person behind you, of course on a quad it's way easy to just look behind you, in a buggy not so much.

And for Christ's sake don't stop your group for a break in the bottom of a bowl you're just asking to get ran into, find a nice flat area out in the open to stop and get out.

What is an air distress panel?
 
Went out once with the wife in the SXS headed to Olds to putt around. We were the only people in Glamis. One group out in the distance was coming to Olds. I told her, they're coming right to us. Yep.....they showed up at the TOP of Olds and asked....."what are Y'ALL doing?" I said we're just putting around. My wife says...........My husband doesn't know how to putt. He RIPS Dunes. Peace

One side is usually orange, the other is pinkish/ghayish red (national aviation color I think)

In the first gulf war we had some fratricide issues (friendly fire, nothing is friendly about it I assure you) anyways an A-10 mistook one of our LAV tow variants as the enemy, and 20mm and tow missiles do not end well. Afterwards we placed these little buggers on top of our turrets to denture the fly boys from blowing us up. I kept mine and threw it in the kit. Have used it 4 times since 1992 in Glamis and all four times the aircrew made a comment on it, so I suppose in peace time its nice to have.

Surprisingly visible from a distance. If you don't have flares or orange smoke, I have all of thee above.

Handheld pop up aerial flares are nice, in addition to a flare gun. But if having a flare gun is to much trouble, one or two these bad boys could save your ass or the ass of another. And they can be dispatched with one arm/hand if needed, a little tricky, but way doable. Don't ask.
About the size of a big magic marker.

I bought some giant smoke bombs at the fireworks place in Wyoming...vacuum sealed them in bags with some matches. They put out a LOT of smoke.
