In 1974’s Young Frankenstein, British actor and comedian Marty Feldman decided to run a joke at Mel Brooks’s expense.
Feldman plays Igor (pr. Eye-Gore), a hunchback with a prominent hump on one of his shoulders. During early shooting, Feldman would move the hump from one shoulder to the other at random, even though he knew it would ruin continuity. Director/Producer Mel Brooks finally caught on and instead of firing Feldman or forcing him to reshoot all the ruined scenes, he instead ran with the joke and Igor’s hump, and the fact it moved back and forth, became the focus of several scenes:
Frankenstein: Didn’t that used to be….. No
Igor: <Looks quizzical, then turns to the camera and smirks>
Frankenstein: You know, I’m a very good surgeon. I might be able to help you with that hump.
Igor: What hump?
