FYI: The iPhone 14, 15, and 16 have built-in Satellite Connectivity. You can use this to send messages and your location to request help from first responders in an emergency. However, if you have one of these phones AND you upgraded to iOS 18, you can also send regular messages over satellite to friends and family. You can try the demo by going into Control Center (swipe down from the upper right-hand corner of your iPhone), tapping the Cellular icon, then tapping Satellite and Try Demo.
