Hi Everyone,

I have a J35a4 with J32a2 heads, cam and intake... brand new short block and rebuilt heads... engine does an amazing job and is very dependable. Tim Beadle out of phoneix built this for me. I have about 6 runs on the car so far over the past couple of seasons.

I am looking to:
1) have a dependable engine
2) gain approximately another 80-100 whp by adding a turbo
3) stay on pump gas 93/91 octane
4) copy your setup if you have done this successfully

One tuner said it is doable as long as I keep the boost under 8 lbs.
I am wondering if the stock rods/pistons can dependably hold up.
I have several friends who have done this with a stock motor (not an a4/a2 combo) and have dependable engines--but they all run 50/50 or 100 percent 110 octane.

My main concern

1) I don't want to grenade my engine as I run it pretty hard in the dunes for 30-60 min runs.
The a4/a2 combo has an increased compression over the stock a4. Stock a4 is 10:1. I am not sure exactly what it is, but my guess is around 11:1

Questions:
1) Has anyone else out there added a turbo to a bone stock honda with this setup and run it on pump gas 93/91?
2) Has anyone lowered the compression on an a4/a2 combo and added a turbo and are running on pump gas 93/91?

Overall, I am hoping to find someone who has successfully done this. If so, I would love to copy your setup.

If not, then my guess is I will need to upgrade my piston and rods to reliably handle the increased compression to run on pump gas.

Your advise is appreciated--Thank you!!

There was a member here, OSG, that had a franken motor like yours that was running 11 psi with an FMU and race gas and he lasted a long time.

I've been out of the game for a while but this build has been discussed ad nauseam on acurazine and V6performance.net look for a guy named NVA-AV6. His tech threads go deep.
Quick answer is, I wouldn't go past five or six PSI on pump gas. Your tuner can probably tune it at 8-9 psi but he's probably going to pull back timing and you won't be getting the full horsepower.

Main thing would be what computer you have. If you have something that can be tuned then I’d run e85 and about 8-10lbs and call it good. Probably make 425-450whp.

6psi on a typical J series would be 370-400whp pretty easily.

If you're going to change pistons, you can pick the CR. You're not stuck with 11.x:1 at that point. You could move down to 9:1, or whatever.

I run 10 psi on a stock J35a4 engine, but I have aftermarket ecu and run E85. Nothing has been touched on the engine in 15 years, not even pull off a valve cover. Car scoots. I would be interested in what turbo and PSI on 91 octane would produce. If you live in CA, E85 is easy to get, I have 4 places around me that sell it at the pumps, and it is around $3.20 a gallon right now.

I'd love to see some photos and specs of your setup if you have any. Sounds like e85 and your setup may be the way to go. Do you know how much whp you are pushing?

Car is in the trailer, so next time I see it, I will take some pics. I bought it with the set up, but was told 425hp.

I guess it depends on the dyno. I was boosted at 8, autronic SM4, Garrett GTR 35, meth injection, the whole shebanga bang and was only 335 to the wheels at the Dyno University. It did make quick work of those 550 horsepower LS motors but then again I had a light car as well

From memory, you neglected to hook up the V-tec...

Dynos all read different, as do tires? :ROFLMAO:
