Its THANKSGIVING DAY what is everyone up too

Went to Sam’s club to fill up truck and extra fuel for around the house they were close. Depot was closed. Lowe’s was closed it is a ghost town here. I’m usually in the dunes so this is a first for me. Looks like one of my water heaters went bad. Looks like it lasted 18 years. Pulled it out and while disconnecting the hot water tube it tore out of the wall. No stores open!  Look at the pipe. It was only installed 1/8” into the fitting for all this time. Going to cap off every thing until tomorrow. Didn’t like putting the mapp gas torch in my wall snd ligh t my house on fire. Then I put in some forward/ reverse solenoids  before it would just go into neutral. Always had reverse.  These solenoid set is $600 from case. Bought them for $200 on eBay. Picking my son up from idaho  all family coming over tomorrow for our feast  enjoy!

Don’t know much about tankless. You have suggestions? Where to buy how good. Do they have log models?!  And where does the rebate come from

Thankful for an Incredible family and friends!!

spent 6 days on pad 1 with two of the kids (oldest is at girlfriend s family’s in Colorado) and with close friends duning our azzes off. Wind machine blew hard and dunes were incredible.

packed up at 6am today and headed back for Thanksgiving with mom - grandma. Such a lazy fun day watching football- and family time!

I am soo thankful for the  people the kids have become! My  youngest son drove home from the dunes this morning with my daughter following me in my company car. We headed to my moms and had a great day

tomorrow is Christmas decorations- and unpack from glamis!

hope everyone stays safe out there in the dunes!

1000 tax credit and 600 gas co rebate on the most efficient ones..  We got a Noritz ? I guess it depends on, what the use is...do you run out of hot water...is the power supply stable...no power with tankless..no hot water....although you can just plug into a generator.

Everything went well yesterday. Great food. Few Laughs. No one hung out too long. Quiet evening. Bed early. Up early. Now, thinking of kicking back and enjoying relaxation time. Peace

Smoked turkey came out perfect and on time.  My Weber had an airflow issue so I scrambled at the end.  Both were great.  Juicy breasts!  If you're not brining your turkey, you are doing it wrong.

Little nephew wanted to take a hike last night so my brother and I ended up sweating out our buzz.  Woke up to wind and light rain in Julian.

Thank you all for sharing it meant alot to me. I will post another thread like this at Xmas time and New Years.. THANK YOU ALL AGAIN

Thanskgiving Dinner at my BIL house, the entire family showed up.

3 sisters that have not spoken in 8 years, everyone got along fine, we had a great meal. Prime Rib, Turkey, Ham, Pot Roast, too much food.

His wife is a Pit Boss at a local Casino and knows how to host, great time.

Grace was tough, 1st time without my FIL and we all said something.

Holidays are back to how they should be, everyone committed to putting aside differences....at least for the Holidays.

Cheers 🍻

Have 23 people over. Some kids even brought co workers. Table is set for a massive feast. Son in law was playing around with excavator and dropped a massive 4’ diameter oak tree stump from 20 feet high. (With my grandson in the cab who absolutely loves excavators) it completely soaked the two of them.  We give thanks for all our many blessings each day, God is great and is in every aspect of ours lives on a daily basis.

That is awesome

My wife is going to do this with our two youngest grandchildren 12&13 they called her the other day and asked for bibles which she took care of right away and mailed them off to them, they live about 280 miles away. They are supposed to call Grandma every day starting the first and they will read a chapter a day together. Teaching them the word of God will be incredible.

Thanks for the post Cheff

Thats awesome GBR. So looking forward to getting started. The ONLY way into Heaven is thru JESUS CHRIST. This morning Dr. Charles Stanley preached ETERNAL LIFE. You want ETERNAL LIFE? You have to believe JESUS CHRIST is the Son of GOD. JOHN 3:16. Excited to share my thoughts / experience with everyone. Peace

Yes Sir, Jesus and only Jesus gives a sinner like myself eternal life what an awesome promise.

I already posted in the BBQ/Smoking thread, but I thought it made sense to double-tap here with a bit more context than just the goods (food).  This was my first year hosting a big family TDay at my house, so it was special to me.  Last year I wasn't in G, but just did a small TDay with a friend at a restaurant.  The 12+ years before that I had been in G for TDay.  Obviously G is "family" and we always threw down huge spreads... but it's still different than doing it at home.  Being my first time hosting, I put together an overly ambitious menu, and in the end dropped off a few of the sides as time management and reality set in.  In fact, I had intended to do most of the sides Wed, but with a ton of people staying with me (including my Sister, her Husband and their 6mo old) I didn't get any actual sides done Wed, only the brines and seasoning the Prime Rib. What we did end up with:

  • Traditional Turkey in the oven (wet brined, then a herb butter slather outside and various goodies in the cavity)
  • Spatchcocked Turkey on the smoker (dry brined, further seasoned with a dry rub before going on the smoker)
  • Rotisserie Cradled Prime Rib (simple rub a day before, including between the bones and meat and re-tying)
  • 3x Mashed Potatoes (no butter, butter, and a cheese "fondue" mashed potato)
  • Roasted Corn and Jalapeño creamed corn
  • Green Bean Almondine
  • Candied Yams
  • 2 x Salads (traditional Caesar and a chopped salad)
  • 2 x homemade cranberry sauces
  • 2 x stuffing (with/without sausage)
  • Gravy
  • A few different rolls (only 1 was homemade, by a neighbor)
  • 3 Pies and 1 Cheesecake
  • a few appetizers I didn't get pics of

Stuff I ran out of time to do:

  • Creamed Spinach
  • Broccoli Cheddar Casserole
  • Stuffed Mushrooms

All-in-all everything came out awesome.  The prime rib was absolutely amazing (even though I forgot to put out horseradish and/or make a horseradish sauce) and probably got the most praise, but it's not really fair to put turkeys up against prime rib.  Of the turkeys, the "traditional" was generally preferred, but both were amazingly juicy (proper brining, and proper resting time people!).  I think I liked the smoked one a bit more, with the crispier skin (the idea with the dry brine) and heavy smoke on it, but it's not for everyone.  My Sister did the yams and green bean almondine, and both were awesome.  Personally I much preferred the almondine vs. a green bean casserole.  That said, having ran out of time/give-a-effe to do my creamed spinach it did feel like we were lacking that 'sort' of dish.  The creamed corn was exceptional, but I made it a bit too spicy for some of the crowd.  Even thought it felt like I spent 2 days shopping for it and 3 days cleaning up after, this was the best Thanksgiving I've had in a long, long time!!!

And some pics...
