I paid $185 plus $10 in person at the ASA booth the SSSS.

So was the extra $10 for using my credit card? I wasn't even thinking about it until just now...WTF?

There was a public comment period to address the new rule changes. Not only are the fees going up this year but locally they can raise them whenever they feel justified in doing so without additional public comment. Absolutely terrible change in policy.

All 348 million land owners of the ISDRA had an opportunity to provide their comments. It was posted all over socials, BLM website, ASA, and even here. https://glamisdunes.com/threads/30-day-public-comment-period-blm-fees.10153/

Comments wouldn't have changed it.....they do what THEY want, when THEY want...they are not a public agency that gives 2 shits about the public. They have been infiltrated by Left wing environazi's and the WHOLE thing needs to be flushed.

Ya but if you buy it through ASA they rip you off. $7 for an online handling fee? Then $13 shipping? They put it in a white envelope and place a stamp on it? Leaves me feeling like ASA is taking advantage of me. Up until last year I always bought through them and included an extra donation. Not last year and I didn't again this year. Like others, I got it at the show and BLM did not charge me a handling fee!

That's what the ASA does... Rip us off and take advantage of us. It is no longer run by "Duners" that go out to the dunes routinely for fun. Hasn't been for a long time.

They realized about 15 years ago how much money was easily coming in from us and just like Microsoft or any other corporation... found a way for the users of the service to pay more... because we are already invested thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars into this, per family.

If you spent ANY time on the ASA Forum, you saw just how demanding and obtuse everyone involved with that organization, was. It's far worse, now.

ASA Membership has been down year after year, its the only ongoing volunteer org for access in the dunes.

Here are the publicly available ASA membership figures and updates that have been reported:

January 2020: The president of the ASA shared that the organization had 1,059 active "Supporting Members" paying annual dues. This update was part of a "Push for 10,000" to recruit more dues-paying members. The message also mentioned having 14,890 members in their Facebook group, though these are not official members.

November 2008: An ASA newsletter reported that the organization had over 34,025 members. The Sand Sports Super Show helped boost this total by adding over 1,200 new members.

I don't like paying $10 to use a Credit Card when the common practice is 1.5-3.5%, same as Online handling Fee of $7 and Shipping Fee of $13 is all bullshit.

But it's clear why they do it.

Just curious... How many times a year do you go?

I average about 6 or so trips a season. Give or take a couple depending on schedules. Each trip is anywhere between a three day trip and a week long trip.

@Marlboroman would be the one who can comment on how much the vendors actually make off each pass sold. I know it isn't much and in the long run doesn't even make it worth the trouble for the in-person sales. All they are hoping for is you to stop buy a pass and spend more money at the store ( Gas Station or Cycle Shop). I think he even mentioned at one point he had to buy the weekly passes up front.

There is almost no money to be made on the passes. I sold them for years and stopped last year. We tried a "CASH ONLY" deal and people complained. Then we tried a processing charge if it was a card (3%), people complained. So we said Phuc it and stopped selling them. It wasn't worth it anymore. We prepaid for them in $10,000 increments and made about $200 is customers paid cash. Waited 6-7 months to get our money back for unsold permits.
