Intercooler fan controller

Halve the voltage to halve the motor speed (and noise) at lower temps
Ah.  Spal makes some really nice brushless PMW fans that use a very small sender.  The rest is integrated into the motor.  Simple wiring, and senders with different response (temperature) rates. Think the one we use is on 100% at 140f.

Ok, curious about why everyone goes with SPAL fans.  The CFM on SPAL fans are not that impressive.  Is there another reason they are widely used?  I went with Perma Cool Fans on my intercooler and they work great at almost triple the CFM of the same size SPAL.

Thanks guys for your input, I will see how things go with the headset on. I have had good luck with spal fans , In the past I tried other brands and they never lasted more than a couple years on my radiator .

                     Thanks

Because SPAL doesn't gimmick their testing to get a high CFM number.  Compare:

https://derale.com/product-footer/electric-fans/universal-electric-fans/h-o-extreme/12-high-output-rad-pusher-fan-2014-08-14-718-detail

Electric motors of the same type aren't really all that different as far as power density.  The SPAL draws 38.6A, yet is rated to flow less than the Derale that only draws 24.8a.  I highly doubt Derale's blade and fan design is 60% more efficient at power conversion than SPAL's.

I would base it more on amperage and number of blades than the lies the manufacturer is saying on their spec sheet

We buy the fan through our hydraulics supplier.  I found all the electronics online.   Kartek seems to carry it though.

These guys offer kits.  Might be able to piece what you want together tho. https://wizardcooling.com/diy-kits/diy-brushless-fan-kits/
Found a CFM chart for these fans:

For a fan of the same diameter to TRULY move 3x the air it would very power hungry and loud.

Do you have links to compare?

There was a tread a few weeks ago about fans.  I think I posted about the 30103202 in it.  I have two on my TBSS.  Those fans are no joke.

ETA. thread link
Ah yes, good thread.

And to compare the SPAL to the Perma-cool:

The Perma-cool's rated for 25% more air at a little more than 1/5th the amperage....  Yeah.  Games.  No way that tiny motor is moving that kind of air through a radiator.

My 9" intercooler fans are just as loud as my 16" radiator fans and seem to have the same pressure from the fans (unscientific hand test, lol)

You answered this yourself.  If a 9" fan appears to be moving the same amount of air as a 16", one is clearly "better" than the other.  Noise could just be poor blade design.

To the hand the velocity of the air seems the close (SPALs on the radiator and Perma on the intercooler).    It would be interesting to see a comparison between them.  I need to build a shroud on my intercooler to get better flow over the whole thing, and I want to go to 9" fans from my 8", so maybe i'll try the SPALs and see how they do.

I did find this: Where the SPAL did better off the radiator but the Maradyn did better on the radiator.

That test is not very good, apples to apples.  The Maradyn is rated considerably higher in CFM (25%~) and amperage (50%~) than the Spal.  The amperage being the big one.  Much larger motor.

ETA...The Maradyn is also 50% MORE MONEY1
