While I think it's misguided, I have no problem with this because:

The cash assistance is intended for families directly impacted by the immigration raids. Mayor Bass highlighted the example of a family that faced potential eviction after one of its primary earners was detained by immigration authorities.

The program will be funded through private donations rather than city funds. Immigrant rights organizations, including the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, will handle the distribution of the cash cards.

The only problem is those programs were funded by taxpayer dollars.

State and local funding: In fiscal year 2023, CHIRLA received about $34 million in state-level grants, nearly triple what it received the previous year InfluenceWatch +12

Additionally, the state of California allocated $35 million to CHIRLA in 2023 and 2024 as part of anti-deportation group funding

California has specifically allocated $25 million in the 2025 state budget for legal aid to defend immigrants who are facing deportation—this funding is part of a broader $50 million “Trump‑proofing” package, which also includes $25 million for the Attorney General to resist federal overreach .

Additionally, budget maneuvers in 2025 have restricted approximately $40 million in state funds that previously supported deportation defense for immigrants convicted of any felony—though this is about limiting access rather than new funding .

Is it just me, or shouldn't the mexican people protest in English so the people who make decisions and the general public can understand them.

A mexican field worker protest is like a alphabet people protest, move along, nothing to see here.

Also, ALL MERICANS or want to be Americans need to have English as a 1st language!!

If you have been here 10 years, you should have applied for resident status and speak English.

I learned Spanish but did not need to.....started with the bad words and worked my way up.

FYI, English is the language that all pilots have to use to communicate around the world.

I learned Spanish so I could talk to the (I-9 compromised) ladies at Western CNC when I was there. Out of 15 women, only ONE wanted to learn English and USE IT. She was also the only one actively working for her Citizenship and a better job. One out of fifteen!

This meant, she was the only one I actually took on Dates... until I found out she didn't want kids (Bye, Senorita!).

Mom was a foreigner. When she first came here, she was in process to get a driver's license but her English wasn't awesome. Helpful lady at the DMV asked if she wanted to take the permit test in Korean.

You moved to America. You should want to be an American. We seem to have lost that aspect of immigration. It shouldn't be a Mexican or Italian or Iraqi or Korean living in America, it should be a Mexican or Italian or Iraqi or Korean becoming an American. You left that place for a reason. Move here, become us, leave that place behind and thrive here because you chose to be here.
 
I find it very interesting that undocumented works are striking, let me know how that would work out in the country you came from?

ILLEGAL is a sick bird, unlawful is against the law, that was drilled into my head by a SGT in my first couple of years of LEO. He was stuck on it because a judge ripped his ass about the use of these 2 words and so shit rolls down to the FNG.
