Hand held radio programming..Rugged and Baofeng

Ok, that is fine that works for you, but to say that the CHIRP software does not work is wrong then.  Correct!
Didnt mean to say chirp does not work i know many do it that way.BUt its simple and easy to also punch in the frequency too.I use mine as a marine radio too and was able to manually enter and program the radio to the related marine channels i used numbers 16,68-72 and i also entered a few race radio channels on 1-5 they show no name but i know which is which.

If going to be used solely as a dirt radio then yes understand chirp may be better suited.I got the older versions a few years ago not a bad buy at 25 per radio.Newer ones i hear can be hacked to go out of band though.

If you need a CSV file to use with CHIRP PM me your email.

Or if I remember  correctly you're in Phoenix I can program them for you.

I am in PHX.  Thanks for the offer, but I already have the cable coming.  Inbound PM with email.

I must be screwing it up.  I downloaded CHIRP, but I can't connect to any of my radios.  The radio displays will flash and change like something is happening, but I get prompts that the radio is not responding.

Is my cable junk?

MOST of all the cables are junk.

I have one guy I get them from on Ebay.

All the others I find don't work other than RTS cables.

it's probably trying to use a comm port that is not active...problem I had...the computer guys can jump in and explain it better. someone probably knows more about it

I thought about that and swapped it with the port my bluetooth mouse was in.  Same results.

The cable I bought was the one linked above, and is a Baofeng branded one.

If you get the radios to me I can program them.  Ship them or bring them by.

Standard Baofeng handlhelds correct?

I've programmed a bunch of them using chirp and the cable. It gets a little weird in the sequencing of all the steps and how to get it to stick. The comm port is a common culprit but also copying all of the channels in is a little tricky. It's been so long that I don't think I could do one now without searching a lot for the videos and how-tos that I used before but the info is out there. Keep trying. Even after doing a few, I would have to take a few tries at it to get it to work. Maybe I'm just stupid....that said If I could do it......
