My son has just taken a job @ a manufacturing facility that is requiring non-Marking rubber soles and a leather top that will not allow any kind of chemicals to get into the toe area.  no steel toe requirement.

Are Redwing boots still the work-boot goto?

Are there other alternatives out there that are comfortable for standing pretty much all day?

FWIW, we are in San Diego.  it would be great for him to go try some on.

thanks

Bob

I am a Red Wing guy, but carefully search their site for the USA made part numbers. Have also had good luck with Danner.

Go to boot barn or boot world to try them out. Buy quality, they will last longer and be more comfortable. I work through goods for a while. Been wearing Georgia boots the last few years

i have been wearing Wolverine steel toe work boots for 10 years or so.  i get a couple years out of them before they are trash.  Big thing i found with working on concrete floors all the time is to replace the insoles monthly with good quality insoles from the boot manufacturer or even some DR Schols off Amazon.

Much less than $200 isn't going to be worth it, long term.  Otherwise, whatever fits best.  Everyone has different feet, one dude's Jesus sandals will be another dude's hot coals.  Wedge sole will be more comfortable than ones with a distinct heel, and since it's on a factory floor, the heel isn't necessary anyway.

I wear redwings daily. Usually get about 5 years out of them. I pick the lightest boots possible that fit the company requirements. But I have to walk up a lot of stairs.

I've worn various Caterpillar boots, they are made by Wolverine.  I typically get 2 years out of a pair before the soles are done.  The boot is still in decent shape though considering they get wet a lot.

Wolverines for last 20 years. I get a good 2 years on them doing general contracting work. I wear soles funny so by the time the tops are trashed my soles are worn funny enough to buy new.

Definitely have him try on different boots to see what feels and fits best.
I like Wolverine but that's just me.

Listen here Mr. Aviator: yore feet are likely molded to those boots from an entire career wearing them, just keep them under your rack so no one trips on them.
I wore boots for 25 years.  The original flightdeck boots were ok after you broke them in.  I switched to buying my own boots after a few years.  The first flight boots were again...ok after you broke them in, but when the Bellevilles came out...OMG...freaking perfect from the first wear.  They fit and feel like tennis shoes.  I still wear them from time to time.

if you are talking about these............ I still have 2 sets of them.  they are both from 1988, I got 2 new pairs just before I got out.......

Ive worn them off and on since then.  I rode street bikes for a few years after I got out & broke both sets in.  then I wore them to work in the garage & other things.  then they sat for years............. still lace up and feel pretty damn good.  Like an old pair of shoes that are juuuuuuuuuuuuuust right.  LOL.

Use to wear the Die Hard work boots from Sears.  They took six months to break them in but would last for years. You always had to think ahead and start breaking in a pair long before the old pair would be worn out.

No, those are the old flight deck boots.  The Navy switched in 2002-ish to the Bellevilles.  Bellevilles are definitely my favorite.
