Glamis CSI - need your help

If it was me...  I would take off allot of the trim and rent or hire the highest power pressure washer I could find that would probably take almost all that paint off and what doesn't come off must be on there pretty good so I wouldn't worry about it.

Pay a kid to go over the whole truck with a da sander and 220 grit and spray the whole truck with this Amazon.com: Raptor Truck Bed Liner Kit with Colored GM White Tint and Spray Gun - 2 Liters    Not sure how much it would take but there are YouTube vids out to get a good idea and the results look pretty good.   I wonder what it would cost if either taken to mexico or any local paint shop could probably get an apprentice to do the whole job in a couple of days and the results might come out even better.

I grabbed up a complete non rusted arizona native extended cab 4x4 V8 dodge dakota dirt cheap that will get this treatment once I get it going.

I have pressure washed it, and after each wash I have to rinse all the paint flakes off the driveway. It just keeps falling off. Don’t even want to wash it anymore.

The hard part of these type of repairs is finding the paints edge. Where it will finally feather out. Sometimes there isn't one and you have to remove all paint from panel.

Why it is so hard for someone to give an estimate of cost. Best way is to plan on removing all the color.

Shops/people remove paint differently, some sand it, some chemically strip it, each has it's owns pitfalls, labor is about the same, good stripper is hard to get in CA and expensive, that's why most people just sand it, labor was cheap. Then once you sand it, if there are prior repairs, you get into that nightmare.  That's why they call them "Estimates".

If you don't hit it with the power washer you will pay somebody to hit it with the power washer and sander at the body shop.   By the time you strip it, repair all the little dings, prime it and paint it you could probably sell it as is and buy one that does not have the paint issue, at least yet.  For an old truck I would say unless you can do most of the work yourself, the juice is just not going to be worth the squeeze.  Personally, I would just drive it as is.

it isnt much cheaper in Az really. the hard part is finding a shop that will even paint it without being an insurance job.

materials have gone up in price insanely high depending on what system is used. for my k5 when i get around to repainting that materials (filler, primer, sealer, paint and activator, hardener etc) costs are sitting at approx 4-5k.

you can still get single stage paints and they are way cheaper, but labor is labor and your gonna pay that same amount regardless of what materials eing shot out of the gun. really only way to save money is to paint it yourself.

GM's white paint was trash for years. There was actually a class action lawsuit over it along with a recall but I don't believe they still honor repairs (looks like it was 5-6 years after).

If it just sits in Gordons and is a dune rat truck - why not roll it with bed liner !!!
