Fuel tank on a trailer question.

I knew a truck driver that drove a water truck for a few months. He said he'd drive a full truck and an empty truck anywhere and not think twice about it. Any thing in between and it was and entirely different animal and almost always a white knuckle ride.

OR split the tank with a wall and have two fuels available

80ish gallons of flexfuel and 25ish of gas or diesel

what about tank fuel cell FOAM can that be stuffed in there

Talk to your welder first, he might not want to weld on it. It is not fun to weld on a tank that has had fuel in it. DON~~~

He is ok to weld it. Has some special stuff to clean the metal. Said this will be easy peasy.

I have two 35 gallon fuel tanks and 100 gallon water under the trailer and you would never know when towing. Way better than jugs

I was thinking about the fumes in the tank. I use to purge the tank with exhaust fumes while welding. Just hook up a shop vac. hose from a exhaust pipe to the tank with the motor running. Also dry ice will work. You can wash the tank all you want and you will still have fumes enough to blow it up. DON~~~

most auxiliary and transfer tanks are not baffled. to be honest the tank doesn't have much height to it so i don't think you would even notice it with or without baffle's. most toy haulers have similar size water tanks not baffled and the black and grey are not baffled i think you are just worrying a little to much. if its a problem just fill the tank and empty any leftover fuel into the tow vehicle and toys for the ride home.  also if your mounting it in the middle of the trailer the main weight transfer would be front to back which would not transfer weight to one side and back which would be the only stability issue with sway

Flex fuel in the buggy only which is 50/50 ethanol/gas.

I had found this tank on Facebook marketplace 3 months ago. Guy was gone for a few months and I stayed in touch with him. 350 was a smoking deal. Should be easy to set it up. Just need to figure out how much to cut off. Maybe I'll just throw it on there the way it is.

I would not worry about baffles. RV water tanks have no baffles. Toyhauler fueling station tanks have no baffles. Your trucks fuel tank has no baffles in it.

Years ago when I raced Baja we had a tool box in the bed of the truck, but only the top 6 inches was for tools. The rest of the box was a fuel tank. We could carry (Smuggle into MX) about 50 gallons in it. Then on the deck of the open trailer I would bolt another fuel tank to the front rail & deck. It was something like 60x12x12, which was around 40-42 gal.

Never once did we ever have any issues crossing into MX or with fuel sloshing. I would not worry about it unless it becomes an issue, but I doubt it will.

What's that fitting in the bottom left corner? is that where you discharge from the tank? If you are going to make changes to the tank you might consider changing that arrangement.

1 - If you accidentally break that fitting off or if it starts leaking you have no way to stop it and will have a serious issue to deal with and potentially deadly.

2 - You typically do not want to draw from the very bottom of the tank to avoid getting any crap in your fuel that's in the bottom of the tank

I would blank that off and install a threaded fitting in the top of the tank and insert aa draw tube that's about 1/2" shy of the bottom of the tank. You can get draw tubes in just about any length and size you want readily online. Lastly, if you are modifying the tank, put a decent size removable clean-out in the top.

Very good point and I was worried about that. For sure I will plug that. Then maybe do the suction where you see then fitting screwed in next to the fill cap. Wonder if I can get away with a vented cap only or need to add another vent line. It would be easy to weld in another bung if needed.  I do need to drop that vent cap down since it will be under the car. Probably weld up a bolt on brace with pad so if the front airbag lost air the car would rest on that and not the tank.

Make the vent bigger than you think you need. The fuel tank I built for my trailer the vent was a little too small and I had to be careful filling it not to overflow. DON~~~
