So my 64 Dodge a100 truck project will have 750-800 HP. LS 6.0 Stroker and a 4l65 auto trans with 3000 stall converter. This thing will build some heat. I have approx. 15x12 on one side and 12x12 on the other. Not going to run through the trans cooler portion of the rad so that cooler will be remote and the only cooler. Just trying to decide what size and brand to buy for each. These will both be mounted up underneath in the middle of the truck laying basically horizontal or a slight angle. But not a lot of airflow. Found this article and they will be mounted like that. I have room to mount the exact coolers they used. https://inthegaragemedia.com/ls-engine-swap-oil-and-transmission-cooling-tips/  I do have a Setrab unit on the Funco up in fresh air with no fan. (Engine oil). Used a trans pump for a separate system so not using the engine oil pump to move the oil. Before that cooler I was seeing 275 degrees. After max of 235 and usually 210-220. What say you.

Have your ECU control the Trans fans and use a soft start and variable speed if your ECU has that level of control.  As far as sizing, way above what I know to tell you if that is enough cooler for the trans and your driving style.  My 15 x 15 trans cooler keeps up barely on my sand truck, but sand driving builds way more heat than you are going to have on a street vehicle.

That truck is gonna be a cruiser.  You're not hot lapping it at the strip.

IMO, no need for either.  Maybe run the trans through the radiator..

I may start with no engine cooler then add if needed. Trans I think it will need. Not running the trans through the radiator introduces less heat. That is the biggest radiator that dewitt makes but there will still be limited airflow.

Pretty interesting how these work. https://www.trucool.com/EN/Products.aspx

Chart below shows BTU ratings. The 1 1/2 thick and 11x11 unit has a 24000 BTU rating. https://media.spicerparts.com/cfs/files/media/JuzYrhRsKxtwj9rTr/TRU-BRO-42019.pdf?store=original

Cooler itself is $225. I have all kinds of fans around the shop and could make my own shroud and mount. https://www.oregonperformancetransmission.com/product/LNG-4590.html

Think I will give them a call on Monday.

I would like to run it on a toggle switch just like the engine oil cooler in the Funco.  I always watch for it to get to 180 and then hit the switch. Same with the intercooler fans. I really want to put those on a toggle as well. Just guess I like to be involved with the controls. Part of the fun.

Curious on your choice of the 4l65?
