Electric power steering questions

SO what unit is in the Monster Cruiser?  I'm not Familiar with "Parkers rack up"

EPS aftermarket kits range from 400 to 600 watts.  I really want to make sure I have an EPS that doesn't grenade in the twisties.  Some of the ruts from the big cars are deep enough to swallow a car LOL.
Sorry, Parker is the owner of Gear One.  I would get the kit from Harvey who works with Joe Fab.  He has the kit upgraded to work for our application.  He is on here I just don't remember his username.

I used the 220watt unit from Pacific customs for a good number of years, I had a Tatum rack and pinion with 10.75 front tires. I never had an issue with steering feedback or lack of assist. Even in really tight technical dunes where I would go lock to lock frequently there was never a time I felt I needed more. I have sold off most of my old car and am building a new one from scratch, I have the 400watt unit from Kartek now because why not! I'm reusing the tatum rack and pinion but I need to take it apart and mill a few thousandths from the top of the body, it has some play I'd like to eliminate. I don't think a GearOne rack will fit my chassis bracket.

Just make sure you have backup parts at camp, maybe not as important for steering, but a buddy has drive by wire.

Last trip, car shut off, no power.

We got it fired but no pedal.

Had to limp it back at just idle.

Replace the throttle body and worked fine.

I will stick with my old school cable. :)

I am not the owner (dad is) he just gives me a lot of freedom to make decisions for the Gear one side of the business.

Yes, Harvey's kit is the preferred kit, few other people offer similar kits as well.

Below is the link to our super rack (use code GLAMISDUNES.COM for free shipping on any order  :hapy: ) This is an awesome sand car rack. Uses the same pinion and same size rack bar as out 2.5" power rack, also has a grease zerk fitting & UMHW wear bar for cheap and easy maintenance

Also Just a note we are working on a few new racks for other fitment &  applications should have them by SSSS  :classic_ninja:

Any one use EPS in a big car with 12.5 -17 Fronts?

If I make the switch I get rid of a ton of hardware and hoses.... But worry about the mass of the car (Black Widow) and the Big fronts destroying the EPS .

R
Yes...12.5-17s and 37" offroad tires.  Zero issues 4 years running now.

Just got back from 700 miles beating through the whoops around San Felipe Baja.  Flawless.

What's makes Harvey's kit the preferred kit over others? Curious as I have a wicked bilt that I need to replace.

Mostly that it's a complete kit and supporting a owner/duner run business. I imagine the wicked and other branded kits are very similar and just rebranded. Harvey's kits are GM-Koyo from a Saturn if I remember correctly. And yes you can get the parts from ebay and DIY, but he does all the packaging and wiring for you in a kit.

I've done the DIY (Toyota Corolla EPS) from pulling at the junk yard to install and it's not hard but not easy like a complete kit should be.

Sorry, just saw this but @Rockwood & @Dune-Track-N hit the nail on the head.

Yes you could do it yourself cheaper, and yes there are other companies that offer very similar kits.

But Harvey works for Joe @  Glamis fab  so support for the product is the main reason. Also Harvey provides everything you need so it is the easy button for just a few more dollars then trying to source everything yourself.

Anyone have pics of their installed units? Getting ready to put a kartek unit in my buddies car that he bought for his son and just curious how all the different units are mounted
