Driveway Stain Help Please….

I have been out of the coatings industry for a while, but Benjamin Moore had an Oil & Grease Emulsifier in their industrial line that was amazing.

For oil stains pour Lacquer Thinner on it and walk away. It pulls the oil out and just disappears. I’ve been doing it for years, have yet to have an oil stain it did not get out.

Dont know if it would work on rust, but it might be worth a try. I did Muriatic Acid on a driveway years ago and it worked well with getting all the random stains and marks out. But it does etch and roughen it a bit, and the smell if breathed in will burn your nose & eyes. Also it takes allot of water to wash it out, and use a broom your willing to destroy.

I use Lacquer thinner for oil stains as well. Also not sure about the rust. Sounds like some great suggestions here. Would be good to know what worked the best.

Nice thing with the phosphoric acid solution we use is there's no odor. Safe if it gets on your skin. It's designed to be safe with organics but aggressive on minerals.

I know it's not the same but with oil stains I use cat litter and work it in with my work boot for a little while.

It has like a sand paper affect. It's not so much the cat litter, just more the technique.
LOL i do the same gotta rub it in good too.

CLR works pretty good on rust stains. I use it when fertilizer gets on the concrete and it pulls the stain right up.

Thank you everyone. I will be trying your ideas in about 2 weeks. Will post pictures of results. Thanks!

I was supposed to do it during the holidays and I didn’t get a chance to because of the weather….

So, I just tried Rustaid as previously suggested. $9.48 for a gal. at Home Depot. Sprayed it with a garden sprayer in the evening after the concrete cooled down. AMAZING stuff! While removing the rust stains, it also bleached the concrete whitening it. 7 gallons later, I have nice clean white concrete. It was well worth every penny since I've been trying everything I could find over the past 5 years.

Where are the Before and After pics?

Selling ready mix concrete for 15 years, one thing i learned is Concrete is porous, baking Soda mixed in a slurry then covering the concrete, with a vapor barrier over the backing soda will help a little,

like stated above, Power Washing Concrete is the dumbest thing to ever do, this will remove the top matrix of the concrete, and will open up the pores. After the matrix is removed, then the top barrier will never be resistant to anything,

You might be able to bleach it with a baking soda, you will see the same stains from hard water, like a sulfate attack,

If this is from battery acid, then the top matrix is already damaged, then there is nothing that can be done for long term fix,
