Have had my CCW for over 8 years now and during 1st training and every subsequent training, the LEO remind you not to "paint" or wear clothing as not to show other you are carrying.  I've always took that into consideration when carrying and wear enough clothing to not show.  My LEO friends and family do the same.  But today at a restaurant this young skinny adult came in wearing a snug t shirt and shorts.  Clearly painting what appeared to be compact pistol inside waist  not even subcompact.  Yes I know what Im looking for but even my son noticed it without me saying anything.  "Dad that guy looks like he is carrying a gun"   Yeah it could have been some young grad fresh out of police academy proudly displaying but come on this was not cool.  If this young man just lifted his arms over his head he would have revealed he was packing and it could have caused some commotion.    Ok Rant over thought I share my thoughts on that and post something close to many hearts regarding carrying.

Pretty sure it's "print".  Like, there is a print of your gun in your shirt.

It's "printing." I've seen new boots do that, older salt dogs who don't care, and normal people doing it. I think it's silly and sloppy, but realistically who cares. If California was an open carry and he was open carrying would you take offense? All this slap is doing is showing off that he has a CCW which will put him in a disadvantage if someone wanted get the jump on him.

I've been carrying for 34 years. Depending on what I'm wearing and where I'm going dictates what and how I carry it. Typically, I wear cargo shorts which are a little baggy, and carry in a front pocket in a wallet holster. You definitely don't want to print your   firearm.  I was at Pismo Beach a few years back, and a young guy with his lady came and sat near us. He took off his shirt and had a Beretta in his rear waistband. He was obviously a new LEO and wanted to be obvious. I seriously wanted to call PD just to teach him what's up.

At least you know one other guy in the room is sane enough to get a CCW.  IDK what county you are in, but not too easy in my county.

Lots of folks in AZ open carry. It's their choice, and I don't care. I carry IWB and concealed, as I don't want the scumbags to know I am carrying.

I know someone who had the coolest .. what looked like a money belt carrying a subcompact 9.. (wish I knew the MFR and model of the piece and the belt/holder deal).. he's thin and was wearing shorts and a larger (for him) t-shirt.. I was amazed how good it worked. I think it was an HK or Sig. The piece was awesome as was this way of holding it, I'd say around, slightly above the belly button.

Yeah, first rule of fight club, especially now. Anyone sees you with it, you'll likely have an 'encounter' with law enforcement and rightly so (in CA). Now if you're in TX.. I'd assume if I see 'em or not, grandma.. and everyone else is rolling 'hot.' .. makes me feel SAFER knowing there are more law abiding folks rolling hot, than any bad guys.

Good catch.. and Good lesson for your son too.

I agree with everything you typed.

Here in TN, a CCW is not required but I obtained mine anyway.  After a year living here, I've only seen one person display a sign of carrying.  The assumption is that EVERYONE is carrying yet I've only seen one.  I carry my P226 but during late Spring and Summer, the weather is just too hot to wear pants so I wear shorts every day which makes it more difficult to CC, particularly because I wear running shorts on the daily.  So, I carry it in my bag pack so I don't display any sign that I'm carrying.

In the 34 yrs you have been carrying, have you ever had to use it, or come close ?  Luckily, I cant think of one single time I have needed one, or wished I had one on me.

Buddy of mine has his CCW and has had it for 2 decades. He buys folks estate stuff from their homes, etc. As a young white dude, he'd go to South Central L.A. (where others wouldn't go) and score big, but had 2 incidents...

1. Goes up their, obviously he has lots of cash on him, in a room (apartment I think) and a 'brotha' came out of a closed closet while he's talking to the other folks in the place and that dude had his gun out and pointed at him. He wasn't carrying back then, but said he didn't think he would have had the time to 'engage' before he was blasted. So they robbed him, tied him up and left.

2. Again same time frame he's outside this time and dudes some how chase him down an alley. He ran off when he saw the dude start to pull from his waist ban.. they caught up to him and robbed him. In that case he said, since he'd gotten away and to cover (a dumpster if I recall) had he been carrying, he could have drawn and had clean shots.

So this is why he has his and always has it.

PS. Why would he take that risk..?..  well when he was 19 he went up there to an old black ladies home, she was in her 80's.. she had a antique lamp and he knew EXACTLY what it was.. paid her $100 for it.. brought it right to Sotheby's and it was in a catalog.. a week later he got $90k for the (Tiffany) lamp. She had inherited it for her Mom. Guess it was the only one that had survived and was in mint condition, just sitting in a house for decades, etc.

SBSO, are to display your badge next to your weapon, but cover it up or wear a big black fanny pack or murse.

CCW= Carry Concealed Weapon

Yeah, that was basically it, but seemed even more flush/thinner.. I'll try to get the brand. I was just amazed.. I think the ONLY way I would have known (before he showed me) was if a strong wind was at his front showing something under the shirt.

.. also, fanny packs.. n' 'man bags' are getting more common.

Thanks for the link!

Thinner gun is easy to conceal.

I've got a Glock 43 and Sig 365.  Just a standard kydex IWB and they're pretty hard to show even if you try.

Or put a Polish P64 in a pocket.
