Seems to be quite a few with the same comments and feelings about Camp RZR, the crowds, the newbies, the shit show as its been called.

I'm sure Polaris see's and reads all of it but I have yet to see anyone ask what could be done to make it better. If Polaris was to read this post. What would you suggest to make it better. Think about it and provide something productive.

As a business owner, I would value constructive criticism as well as good ideas. We know Glamis, We know the Beach Store, the compound foot print, what the Vendors area and camping turns into when Camp RZR hits.

Anything you can think of?

Having worked it a couple years inside the event area I'd hazard a guess that <10% of the Halloween crowd visit the event area and a solid 1/3 of those are a quick trip to signup for the giveaways, maybe returning for the prize giving and concert when they have them.

For those that do go inside, most a newbies and are actually pretty receptive to learning more about Glamis and being good stewards of the land.

The larger percentage are those out for Halloween weekend that don't attend Camp Razr and are just there for the party / kick-off weekend.... the majority of them are not susceptible to outreach, other than through peer pressure. Signage, outreach, social media posts, it's all a waste of time unless it comes from someone within their circle of trust, they give zero fucks about what anyone else thinks and short of some 10k enforcement officers rolling in, no outside forces will make a dent. The industry and those involved know this and have tried partnering with influential people and orgs to little avail.

All that said, are you looking to make Halloween weekend at G less of a shitshow and a better experience or are you looking to make the Camp Razr event better?

Great question and I was asking what Polaris could do to make Camp Rzr Better. I honestly didn't even consider the Halloween aspect/crowds into the mix but it is absolutely the majority of the chaos.

I know a good number of people that enjoy the production. Polaris is one of the few OEMs that put money and effort into such a large industry event. Like any crowded event, there will be turn offs. Can temporary traffic light systems be set up at wash road and Gecko road to keep people moving? That would be nice for most big weekends actually.

This is "THE FIRST BIG WEEKEND" of the year. We've all been bottled up thru the summer excited to get back into the Dunes. It's close to impossible for us to lower our testosterone levels. Show our new and improved toys we've been dabbling with all OFF SEASON long. I understand Camp RZR wants to show off their new stuff. Have a Massive gathering / party. And..........Halloween weekend kicks off our (Regular Duners)Year. How can we ask for Camp RZR to schedule their Big Show for an off weekend for the reasons of CONTROLLED CHAOS? Camp RZR gets a lot of exposure on this weekend. It's hard for me to think they give a Ratz Aiss about the Craziness. I'm thankful they don't book it on Veterans / Thanksgiving / New Years / Presidents weeks. Although I would love to attend one of their events, difficult cause of the stories. My solution............Pick an off weekend and claim it CAMP RZR's. Peace

help with the clean up. last time i went was 2 years ago and i have never seen the washes so bad. i tried to clean up from the camps that were around us but ran out of trash bags and limited space in the truck bed was full of trash.

How to make Camp RZR better?Simple, host it on an off weekend. But they probably get more visibility on a holiday weekend.

You can make Halloween better by simply having a massive LEO Presence and Enforcement of the Rules.

Well I Maybe do like what they do at KOH which is a total sh!t show and have many more clean ups each morning not just after the event but daily.. I don't go to Camp RZR because of the sh!t show and actually stopped going to KOH for the same reason. I guess I am just getting old but crowds of people only out for themselves just isn't my thing

Please refer to the thread, things I hate about Glamis!
BIG Crowds and people who have no clue what they are doing, no common sense, total lack of respect for Glamis and fellow duners....
Now throw that whole mix into a Holiday Weekend, add in some Polaris Camp RZR, a dash of ghost campers, and just a smidge of sign and drives and you have an epic recipe for the for mentioned Shit Show!
For dessert, heat up some Chinese lanterns and Mariachi music set to Eleventy hundred!!!

LOL

For starters, anyone entering should be asked what the hand signals mean...if you get a Bro in a clapped out Ranger with Fiberglass front fenders and Metal Mulisha stickers throwing the Shocker...he's a No-GO!!! NEXT!!!

First off unless you fix what makes the shit show the shit show moving it to an off weekend just makes another shit show weekend.
I have never been to a Camp Rzr and don’t plan on it anytime soon. So I don’t know what Polaris is or is not doing, I do know that Glamis is not the only location so I would look into is this a Camp Rzr issue or a Glamis issue. At least start there.

I don't remember Halloween as a particularly big weekend until Camp Rzr made it an annual event. I haven't been inside the actual event in years so I don't really have anything constructive to say about improving the event. I also don't think that improving the event will help with the negative comments. Most of the negativity is about the behavior of the low iq people out there at the hill, the drags or in their own camps. Not really something that Polaris can change. That's not to say that they shouldn't continue trying to improve and educate their customer base. Trash cleanups are good. I guess the big question would be, how do you teach someone to not be an asshole without telling them you think they are being an asshole?? Nobody wants to spend $100k plus, be it cash or credit, to go out there and be told how to behave. The trick is to make them want to behave better.

we haven't gone that weekend for a few years because of the mayhem. I know there was trash everywhere, and people trying to leave the washes were stuck for hours and literally fighting, it was pretty comical watching people try to cut thru the whoops and get stuck!

To improve this, I think they need to add trash dumpsters at the big washes exits, this may do a couple things. 1, it may persuade the folks that leave there trash to actually put it in a bin, and it would definitely help speed up getting out of the washes. even though they are emptying the bins at the exit constantly, its a slow process and it just bottles everyone up.

i hate to say this because I'm normally against the rangers checking registration and non resident stickers, but maybe this is a good weekend to do that and potentially catch some of the heavy drink and drive people. id also say the rangers should go back to ticketing the folks hauling ass near camps. that's a problem every big weekend that i believe would add some safety. there is a lot of places you can haul in the dunes... camp shouldn't be one of them, specially when they are packed in as tight as they are on busy weekends.

It seems that holding it on the weekend following Halloween and giving away shirts for every bag of trash turned in would be a great idea.

Trash bins near the big washes also a great idea, for the big weekends.

IMO they don't need a stop light at the wash road they need someone standing in the middle of the street to keep traffic moving. They do this at our church every Sunday and once they get the hang of it, it moves traffic twice as fast. Especially if they have already dumped their trash at the wash... if were me, this would he an every big weekend kind of thing.

Great topic @Grease Monkey

That'd be the death of the Glamis Veterans Day Gathering. When the calendar hits we are back to back weekends to Halloween for ~4 years until we break free, like this year, and have a vacant weekend between. I have less than zero interest in holding our event at the same time as that.

98% of the Polaris folks that come host it are from Minnesota and it also lines up as the weekend prior to SEMA, I know folks that bounce directly from Razr to Sema. Unsure if their timing is related or they just want to take advantage of one of the biggest weekends at G while they also have less/no events happening in Minnesota.

The lines out of wash road/gecko can't really be sped up. The train tracks are a ball buster. They do enforcement choke points on the way out and they absolutely have to since they are barely able to throughout the weekend. Short of designating separate right/left turn lanes 1/4 mile or so deep and then putting enforcement on both lanes I don't see how it could be better.

More trash bins aren't the answer... as it is they have a truck(s) on-site during busy weekend exits and they'll be unloading dumpsters real time while people are filling them. The cost associated with the trash trucks further down the washes would be astronomical, we already spend ~800k-1M annually on maintenance out there (~150k just for dust abatement on wash road). Not to mention that as soon as one was filled it'd just collect tons of garbage around it instead of going into the next one down the road... total shitshow.

Enforcement/cops near the dumpsters won't work... they were tired of people dumping trash near the vendors toilets on their way out so they posted up LE nearby, guess what happened... every time it results in people not dumping there (and of course not at the dumpsters) but letting go of the bags along the 78... every single fucking time.

We need less amenities, not more.

We need less people. Starting to think Bill Gates is on to something.
